This is a no reserve auction whatever it goes for it goes for.
Where do I start. I’ve been meaning to put my cars up for sale weeks if not months ago, but I’ve always found a way to procrastinate. I first planned to write this up when I was at Talladega GP racing my
Yamaha R3 for the first time, but I should have known that activity would take
up most of my time that weekend. Now I
am on my girlfriend’s beach vacation trip so while she is out shopping I’m
going to knock this essay out. But
before I start talking about the car let me mention why I hate the beach for
real. Coming out here all you see is all
the beautiful people living life, they are either rich or poor, either way they
obviously don’t have hard jobs and mortgages to pay. I’m pretty sure they are all single too, living with or on their parent’s money, if not then something similar. They are far too happy and have too much free
time to work out and play sports to have real responsibility in their
lives. It has always been my goal to
have fun but what makes me happy has changed, I have had the money and
responsibility that comes with that, I’m ready lower the workload on my
life. And with that comes the sale of my
toys.
First up for sale is my car, which is a 1997 3000GT VR4
Hardtop 6-Speed Twin Turbo. I’ll break
it down into 3x categories to make this easy to read. The car was basically given to me by the 2nd
owner so I really don’t care what it sells for as long as it goes to someone
that is going to take care of it and keep it in good shape. It only needs a couple things to be perfect, it was well taken care of prior to me having it and all I ever did was drive it
on the weekends. Yes that means I am
only the 3rd owner. But I
just need to un-clutter my life and I know if I hang on to it I’ll end up
spending a bunch of money on it. Any
questions feel free to ask, I believe in selling things honestly and not
leaving details out so if I forget something it is not on purpose but I’ll try
to be as detailed as possible. If you
don’t know anything about 3000GT just know that 97-99 are the best years period
end of story with 99’ being the absolute best, unless you are looking to modify
it a lot in which case 95’ might be the best so you don’t have to beat
OBD2.
Mechanical:
Usually I leave this category for last but in
this case I think it goes first. So
mechanically this car has relatively low miles, it has been well taken care of, and up until about a month ago it was 100% perfect. Car ran perfect, no check engine light, no
noises, no smoke, no leaks, no grinds, no pops, no squeaks, nothing. Brakes are in great shape, transmission is
perfect, clutch is good, suspension is good, steering is good, alignment is
good, electrical is good, the A/C even blows ice cold. Everything works as it should. Then one day a month ago I went to start it
and the oil pressure was showing 0, the oil warning light was also on so I
immediately shut it off. Just to verify
the oil pump had bit the dust I took the oil cap off and fired it up one more
time, the lifters of course made a little noise without oil pressure and I
noticed no oil was splashing on the cams meaning the oil pump had in-fact
died. I don’t have the money, free time, will power, or interest in taking this thing apart to replace the oil pump so
it’s going up for sale. One part and a
some hours of your time and you can have a perfect running 97 VR4 6-Speed for
less than you can find one anywhere else, it literally shouldn’t need any work
outside of the oil pump it has only been sitting for a month and it has been
garaged the entire time I’ve had it, still is in the garage and I’ve kept the
battery charged up. It recently had an
oil change + filter, the timing belt was done around 100k awhile back, plugs
wires, 99’ lifters etc…. The car will of
course need to be towed because you don’t want to start it at all without oil
pressure, as of right now it has run maybe a total of 30 seconds with the bad
oil pump so the engine should still be in good shape. I’m guessing the people that replaced the
timing belt also did the oil and water pump at the same time as that is common
practice, and the aftermarket oil pumps for the 6G72 are known to have quality
issues which would make sense as to why this happened. Also
the tires have good tread but they are old and have some weathering.
Exterior:
Exterior wise the car is rareish and darn
near perfect, maybe 2 dings on the whole thing and they are not easy to
see. It is a factory hardtop which makes
it lighter and more rigid. Most of the
95’+ VR4’s had the sunroof or glass lift out moonroof, it is rare to find a
hardtop in the later years especially a 1997. The paint is the good ol caracas red single stage factory paint so it
has no clear coat to fade and we have kept it waxed/polished regularly. The Carfax is clean showing no wrecks ever
and the car shows it, all the panels line up, the undercarriage shields are all
there, all the lights work as they should, no chips in any of the glass. There is no rust on the undercarriage, infact
it looks perfect, the only work I ever did to the outside aside from washing
and waxing was to replace one exhaust tip that had fallen off with a new oem
tip. Not much more to say about this
other than it looks great, the factory chrome wheels are in good shape with no
curb rash which is also rare.
Interior
: Interior is the same as the exterior, mostly
perfect. The only damage is the common
drivers left seat bolster tear, other than that the seats are in good shape
leather of course. All the controls work
fine, A/C and heat both work, the power antenna is dead which is common for any
old power antenna and cheap to fix if you really want to. All the gauges work good, yes I checked the
oil pressure gauge sensor connector, it legit has no oil pressure. Radio works, power seat works, power windows
work, power mirrors, the rest of the controls etc… Not much else to say other than repair the
drivers seat and you have a perfect interior, even has the original floor
mats.
Any other questions feel free to ask, this one was real easy
to type up because all it needs is an oil pump and you have a daily driver with
320hp + AWD and a 6-Speed Getrag trans.
