This has been an ongoing project for the last 16 years and I'm just not feeling like finishing it. One pic is the car when I brought it home and one pic is the original engine.. No serious body rust but floor pans and gas tank were rusted out. A replacment gas tank was impossible to find so I built a steel frame in the spare tire recess and installed a 20 gallon fuel cell (orange tank in pic). To gas up you need to lift the tail gate and rear floor hatch I repaired the pans and built the trans tunnel with steel flat bar and fiberglass . They are strong and look good.
This is a Pinnin farina bodied 1955 cross country.300 were produced and I think there are less than 30 still around. The motor and trans are low mileage 1978 Nissan 280z (L28 and auto trans) I chose this driveline because it actually fit. I did not want to use a computer driven fuel injection so I purchased a Bob Sharp racing manifold and I'm using a new 450 CFM Edelbrock carburetor. It runs great and does not load up at idle or bog under acceleration. This Nash is a unibody so to use a large V-8 would have required a sub frame where with the six I was able to fabricate a front cross member and utilize the Mustang rear cross member.
Rear end is 72 Mustang with 3:73 gear ratio. The wheels are 4 lug Mustang. The rear tires are 235/70 15. They are just a little to big for the wheel wells but they need to be replaced as they are weather checked.I built 3 billet aluminum spacers for the front wheels to give the car a more symetrical look. The front brakes are 55 Nash, totally rebuilt along with wheel cylinders and seals.Rear leaf springs were re-arced and have teflon between the leafs. Drive shaft is Nissan front Ford truck rear.Runs great but has front end shimmy at 45 mph which goes away if the tire pressure is lowered The steering is tight and seems fine so I suspect that the tires which have very low mileage just have flat spots from setting for so many years., The interior front seat is pretty good and is a bench seat from a Ford van. A few pics show the mountings for the 3 point seat belts. The rear seat is from a Dodge van. It is not permanently mounted yet. It is just setting in the storage well that was under the rear seat. No headliner but the original support rods and tabs are there. There is no carpet but I have 2 rolls of black automotive carpet. I also have rubber door seal material and a tan seat cover for the rear seat. The gauges, lights and electrical system are all 12 volt. There are a lot of small details to finish. The glass is all good except for a small crack in passenger front door but the window channels and door rubber could be replaced. The lights and horn work, The original wiper vacuum moter and hardware are all there but not hooked up. and it's currently licensed with pink in hand and other than the front end shimmy it is very driveable. I used a new Dodge truck radiator and on a 100 degree day it has to run 30 miles to lift off the 100 degree peg.The speedometer is unhooked as it squeals and the other gauges all work. They are a tach, amp meter and oil pressure which runs 50 lbs when the motor is warmed up at running speed and 30 at idle.
If you want to talk some about it just msg. me and I'll meg. you back with my phone number but what I've listed here about covers it
This is listed in many So. Cal Craigslist areas. If it sells before the auction closes I will end the auction. This is not junk. I am a retired machinist and I have fabricated every part that was not usable from the Nash or the Mustang The passenger side door will need to be adjusted as sometimes it will just pop open. The original e-brake handle works well and the Mustang e-brake cables are there but not hooked up.
