Description:

This is a 1935 Nash Lafayette three window coupe. I purchased this car in April of 2014 from a individual who bought the car in 1970 with the intent to restore it. When he bought it in 1970 it was not running and had not been licensed since 1955. He had the engine rebuilt, disassembled the body and chassis completely and then it just sat in his garage the whole 42 years that he owned it.
What I have done is assembled the chassis and body. The engine has been run about 12 hours and the head has been re- torqued so it just needs to get some miles on it to seat the rings. I have not done any body work on it. There is no rust out or rot, only small dents and surface rust. The original color was gray. The car was painted green in the early 1950's. The paint has many scratches, has large area's of the gray paint showing through and some bare metal as well as surface rust. I have assembled the car to the point that it is now registered in the state of Colorado and I have a clear title in my name.
The things that I have changed or added are : Turn signals; electric fuel pump - I have the original pump.; bucket seats - I have the original seat but it needs total rebuild; Radiator is aluminum - I have the original radiator but it needs a new core. I have also added a coolant recovery tank; Head lights are not correct - I have the original bullet style but, they are missing the lenses and some internal parts; The tail light lenses are not correct; All the glass is new safety glass I do have one of the original plate glass side window glass; All four shocks are rebuilt; Starter is rebuilt; Distributor is rebuilt; The vacuum wiper motor is new old stock and works great; I have a 12 volt battery in it. The rebuilt generator is 6 volt and it is not connected nor is the fuel gauge, amp gauge. The 12 volt conversion needs to be completed or go back to the 6 volt system; The tires are not correct for the car. They are 16 inch radials but they are too wide for the rims and they aren't tall enough so speedometer reads fast and engine turns more RPM with a 470:1 rear end, though, they do make a nice and smooth ride.
The interior needs to be completely redone. The top needs new canvass. The original parts that are missing that I know of are : the clutch dust cover, the keys - trunk-door and ignition locks. The fog lights are not wired and they are six volt. drivers door window regulator needs repair and I have the parts for it.
I have found that the 1935 Nash Lafayette model year production is pretty much split year production car. The Early 1935 production is much the same as the 1934 model production and the Later 1935 production is much the same as the 1936 model production. This is a Early 1935 Nash Lafayette and it has mechanical brakes and the Later 1935's have hydraulic brakes like the 1936's. Another difference is the Early 1935 production body design is more like the 1934 production (main difference is the 1934 has vertical hood lovers and the 1935 has horizontal hood lovers). The Later 1935 production body design is the same as the 1936 production which is a total different front end and roof line and trunk line of than the 1934 and Early 1935 production.
