1962 Nash Metropolitan Convertible Special Pre Estate Sale Up for your consideration is a restored last year production 1962 Metropolitan convertible with approximately 700 trouble free miles since restoration. This year metro has a lockable outside trunk lid [ which many of the earlier years Metro’s did not have a trunk that was accessible from outside only from inside the car by lowering the rear seat back ] also many other options. The car is in storage 7 to 8 months a year, up on jacks, covered, and on a battery tender. It has been driven on nice Saturday or Sunday drives, to the stores or to local car shows in our Florida area. It always draws a crowd of interested admirers with stories to tell and questions to ask. The car has been completely stripped down, metal work repaired, block sanded, epoxy primed, sprayed sunburst yellow and frost white factory colors, then sprayed coats of clear coat and polished. Dash stripped & painted. Under body metal and interior trunk walls and floors undercoated. New complete interior seats, rear & door panels, wind lacing, carpet, door and window handles. New chrome keyed trunk handle, trunk hinges, & new rubber trunk mat. All front end steering rebuilt, including tie rods & ends, steering idler unit, shocks, bearings, bushings, front & rear brake shoes, brake master cylinder, metal brake line master to rear, slave cylinders new or rebuilt, rubber flex brake fluid hoses. Dot 5 silicone brake fluid installed. Front end aligned. All wheel rims sandblasted, primed, and painted. New windshield & rubber, also window & door, vent windows, headlight, handles, hood bumpers, trunk hinge, lid, & handle, gas tank filler grommet, rubbers & weather stripping replaced. New hood safety latch and aux safety cable. Cowl vent screen. Window channel felts. New Chrome headlight rims, metropolitan side script, trunk handle & hinges, grill surround chrome molding pieces, excellent grill no marks, new rear bumper guards, front & rear bumpers and front bumper guards are not perfect but passable, horn button crazed should be replaced, drivers side outside door handle was chromed but has slight pitting should be redone, stainless steel body side molding both sides polished excellent no dings. Nice “M” grill medallion w/ new chrome surround. One key operates all locks and ignition. Engine rebuilt, painted, has 160 Lbs compression on each cylinder, new freeze plugs, motor mounts, flywheel resurfaced & new ring gear, Carb rebuilt, transmission seals replaced, new transmission mounts, shifter mechanism adjusted, clutch master & slave cylinder & hose replaced, new water pump & hoses, generator rebuilt, fan belt, heavier steel gas tank, new pointless electronic ignition installed, distributor cap & wires, water heater hoses, thermostat, fuel pump flex hose, fuel pump rebuilt, good strong battery, etc. Radio rebuilt, new antenna, heater temp valve rebuilt, WSW radial tires very nice they look great, and have about 1/4” thread but are old and should be replaced. The convertible top looks nice but it is old & tight and plastic windows are not so clear. I usually drive with the top down and the new conv boot cover on. I was going to replace the roof but unsure what color, black, tan, or white, to order from the California Metropolitan Shop. The horn, heater, wipers, choke, lights, radio, under dash light, turn signals all work properly. All doors and trunk lock with one key. The chrome hubcaps are very nice no rust. This Yellow Metro beauty starts, runs, steers, shifts, & stops great. No issues! It has plenty of power and a pleasure to drive around. Also you will notice the valuable original option “petty” stamped Flying Lady beautiful chrome hood ornament, the original “Deutschland” German grill badge, It has the optional cast aluminum polished tail light bezels, optional “Ignitor” pointless electronic ignition conversion kit, vinyl spare tire cover, galvanized battery box, optional screw on oil filter adaptor, glass fuel filter.
