Description:

Vehicle:
1965 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 2 door convertible
VIN:
338675M302405
Odometer Reading:
67, 689
Body:
This car is a 2 door convertible that was built at the Lansing, Michigan plant. The car was built during the second week of April in 1965. The body of this car has been lifted off the frame and completely restored. The floor pans are as solid as they were at day one and probably cleaner. All new body mounts have been installed. When sighting down the side it is very straight on both sides. Video: Olds 442 Walk Around Running: here

Paint:
The paint code on this car is A. That was Oldsmobile’s designation for Ebony in 1965. This car has been completely repainted red. The paint work on this car is excellent. Great lengths were taken to make sure that no one knows that this car was originally black. The inside of the trunk and engine compartment are both painted red as far as one can see. I dare say that if the body plate did not have the letter A on it most if not all viewers would not know that this car was originally black. The paint on this car has an excellent shine and depth.
Interior:
The trim code for this car is 957B. This was Oldsmobile designation for a white vinyl interior. That is exactly what is found in this car. This car has white seats and trim panels with a black dash and black carpet. There is a center console between the two bucket seats. At the front end of this console is a tachometer. There is a locking storage compartment in this console. The glove box in the dash is the home to a modern JVC AM-FM CD player stereo. The speakers for this stereo are found under the front seats. The original AM radio is still in the dash. A water temperature gauge has been mounted under the dash. The steering wheel is the original black two spoke wheel. There is a vanity mirror mounted to the passenger side sun visor. The rear view mirror has the day night option. This car has factory air conditioning which is fully functional. This was a rare option especially in a convertible in 1965. Both black carpet and the white vinyl seats are all original.
Engine:
By the time the 1965 model year arrived the Oldsmobile division decided that it was time for their muscle car to have a bigger engine. In 1965 the 400 cubic inch V-8 was installed. Under GM mandate that was the largest engine that GM would allow in a mid-sized car. This engine was rated at 345 horsepower. The engine in this car starts easily. It does not smoke on start up or while running. The engine is the correct bronze color. The engine compartment is well detailed. The car has dual exhaust complete with the constrictions in tailpipes to give this car that special 1965 442 sound. The only things that are not stock on this engine are the sensor for the water temperature gauge and a chrome fuel pump. Behind this engine is a three speed automatic transmission that has been installed in place of the original two speed automatic for ease of driving. I still have the original Jetway transmission which would be included with the purchase of the car. Video: Olds 442 Engine Running here May need to copy link into browser.
Wheels and tires:
1969 Olds-Hurst wheels have been installed on this car. The black centers have been power-coated and new chrome inserts and centers installed. It is worth noting these wheels are actually chrome at the outer edges and are not chrome trim rings. Goodrich Radial TA tires with raised white letters have been installed on these wheels.
Convertible top:
This car has a white convertible top. Per the body identification tag this car had a white vinyl top when it left the Lansing plant. This top was replaced during the restoration. There is a boot to cover the convertible top when the top is down. The clips that wrapped around the top well revel moldings have been removed from the boot as they could cause scratches of both the chrome trim and paint. Traditional snaps have been installed on the top well revel moldings and the boot for easy installation. Video: Olds 442 Convertible Top Working here May need to copy link into browser.
Chrome:
The chrome on the front and rear bumper is in very good shape. This car also has a chrome upper molding that is in good shape. This option, B84, is not found on many of these cars.
