Up for auction is a super sharp Rally Red 1970 Opel GT that has been well maintained and garage kept for most of its life. As stock as they come, has the larger and more powerful 1900cc Touring engine. The car was repainted Rally Red from its original orange and looks lean. Great original chrome bumpers all around. The motor and 4-speed standard transmission run great and are very peppy. All gears are smooth and the parking brake holds the car. No smoke, knock or pings; the previous owner said that the motor and trans were gone through before they had the car- Starts right up and runs like a top.
The original chrome trims rings and steel wheels are nice with newer tires. New shock absorbers all around, all new custom dual exhaust and good brakes with disc on front and drums on rear. Good solid floor pans with only one sheet metal repair under the driver’s knees. The car’s body looks clean and has only some minor bubbling in small places and a few patches of rust: one above the rear driver’s wheel well and one behind the back passenger-side wheel. I am sure in its 46 year like that body repairs have been done because Opels were known to sometimes rust if not protected.
The motor has new plugs, rebuilt Weber carburetor, hoses, wires, rebuilt windshield washer system, has had regular oil and filter changes, included special zinc additive for smoother lubrication. Black vinyl interior & upholstery and, although there are rips and some tape on the original bucket seats and headliner, the inside is amazingly clean and sharp. All the lights & gauges work- the horn is the only thing I can’t get to sound. The car comes with a brand new custom made Opel headliner ready to install. Also lots of extra bulbs, body badges and other parts are included- and has a good spare tire inside the hidden compartment.
Overall this is a great 1970 GT that is in reliable shape and will give years of peppy 4-speed fun!
