You are looking at one of the most sought after Collectable Cars on the market. This is a Ford model Woody Wagon California Street Rod that is totally custom and ready to rock and roll!! Sitting on a 1950 Mercury wagon chassis is this professionally built and completely Custom 1949 Ford Country Squire Woody Wagon, with more than $100, 000 in the build in the 1990's. Built up and modified over a period of decades in California as you see it today. Used as a Surf Woody Wagon in the San Diego area.
Beautifully constructed, it features it's Raven Black lacquer paint and original Maple Wood Work. The Wood Work has been refinish later in the Woody life and it is extraordinary condition. Deeply tinted glass adds to the appealing exterior look. The interior is also Mercury and the upholstery, door panels and ceiling are all covered in Plush, Carmel Leather. The Metal Work is all Mercury (wood grain). On the dash you will find several period Stewart-Warner gauges, even a tachometer, a leather wrapped La Carerra Steering Wheel and a Clarion AM/FM/CD sound system, with seven bands and two sub-woofers. Electric Windows, Power Steering, Brakes and Vintage Air make driving the Woody a pleasure.
By now you may have seen the photo of the rear seat. It was built to accommodate the tubed rear assembly. The rear Halibrand Wheels are a full 10 wide and the wheels ride on Mickey Thompsons. At the front a pair of Halibrands are also mounted. With front discs, rear drums and a r coil over suspension at the rear give the Woody plenty of stopping power and it handles great. Solid chassis and undercarriage with no rust. The Woody has been only used in the dry.
The running gear included time tested and Hi-Performance Custom Chevrolet small block, with plenty of polished item accompanying the engine. An Edelbrock four barrel gives the Woody plenty of punch, as does the custom, tubular exhaust headers. Going through the gears is precise with a three speed Turbo 375 and a Ford nine inch diff. The Woody not look good, but she really moves.
The paint is in fine, clear and shiny condition. however, the lacquer has rubbed a bit thin on the top crease of the left front fender. It is just thin, not rubbed through. A fan belt broke and hit the hood on the right side, leaving a nickel size dimple. There is a nickel size chip in the chrome on the front bumper and a very few chip in the chrome bumper at the rear.
The Woody runs great and she show well at any event, whether a concours, a hot rod show or at your local car event. It has always been a crowd favorite over the twelve years of my ownership.
