Description:

Morris Minor 1967 6 CWT (600 weight van) Incredibly rare original left hand drive export model. This van was originally almond green and was used by a British sports car company in Arizona. At some time in it’s life it’s been re-painted British racing green, which is now faded to a flat finish due to sitting out in the sun. It can be polished but I always wiped it down with an oily rag. This is a beautiful original Moggie van, that a huge amount of money has been spent on to make it an incredibly reliable driver. It starts instantly and everything works. A newly rebuilt 1275 engine has been installed to give it a little extra go! Engine received new valves, new guides, timing chain, pistons and rings and rod shell bearings. A new clutch and clutch pressure plate were also fitted. When the engine was out, the complete break system was replaced with a Moss rebuild kit, including all new copper pipes and hydraulic break lines. All four wheel’s slave cylinders and break shoes were replaced. The brake hubs were skimmed and a new master cylinder was fitted. New tires to all four wheels fitted and balanced and have under 1, 500 miles on them. New front windshield was fitted and a new English rubber glass seal replaced the dried out cracked original. New rear door window seals come with the van as they have not been fitted. I replaced the front indicator side light lenses with British items that were purchased at the incredible Beaulieu autojumble, along with many other parts included in this auction. The original American lenses are included. A brand new complete British carpet set still in its packaging comes with the van for the new owner to install and also brand new large style original Morris logo branded rubber floor matsfor both the driver and passenger sides. The non-synchro gearbox works perfectly and all gears can be selected easily including reverse. One must double de-clutch for first and be at a complete stop to select first- standard for this smooth case transmission. A new Bosch battery has been installed and starts the van instantly. A little choke is required to start, and it easily settles into a pleasant idle once warmed up. There is a slight exhaust leak from the pipe to the muffler under the driver’s floor that should be sealed as fumes can be smelt in the cabin whilst driving. An easy Sunday morning fix with a cup of tea. To help refresh the parts that other beverages cannot reach. All the driving lights work correctly even the little green light on the end of the indicator stalk! The speedometer light bulb needs replacing but the engine charging and ignition lights work. The heater fan works but the water hose has been disconnected as it is not needed here in California. Windshield wipers function correctly but rubbers need replacing. The original light blue seat covers and door covers are still in place and need a little TLC but are not torn or ripped. New seat foams would be advisable. The headliner is the original speckled cloth with matching sunvisors- all perfect! The little plastic brackets for the sunvisors have crumbled due to prolonged sun exposure but replacements are available from Moss motors. The body of the van is in fantastic condition with no rust through on any of the external panels. The wheel arches are all perfect. There is surface rust on the roof from where the paint has faded off. But this could be sanded off easily if one chose to repaint the van. I preferred the oily rag originality myself, but new owner’s choice. There is only one bad rusted area in this little van. It is the driver’s side inner sill. It is rusted through in about a 5 inch section. This was due to rain entering through the cracked windshield and seal that then ran along the dash and dripped onto the drivers foot well sill. This could be easily replaced with a new panel welded in by any small body shop or by oneself. Panels are $35 from Moss Motors. The interior of the van body is fitted with plywood panels which looks original. The original painted plywood floor panels can be unscrewed to service the chassis. The chassis is perfect and rust free. There is a small petrol leak from the fuel tank which I believe is from where the rubber hose joins the petrol tank and it’s cap. The rubber is old and hardened probably cracked due to age. It has scratches and faded paint. Primer showing through on the roof. There must have been a small reversing accident to the roof corner decades ago. That was repaired before painting BRG. This van has incredible patina that is most desirable these days. And I would leave alone and drive as is. I love this little van and regret having to sell it. This little van got more smiles, waves and attention than any Lamborghini on my daily drive along Hollywood Blvd. Even being stopped by the local police just so they could look and talk about it! I can assure the new owner that he/she better be ready for conversations at every traffic light and where ever and whenever you stop. This is an incredibly rare export van that comes along for sale very, very rarely. Morris van is parked in Hollywood and is available for inspection at our company office in Silverlake, Los Angeles.
