Other Makes 80 Military Land Rover (1950)
for sale

Price: US $200.00

Description:

Very Early Military Land Rover with great history.
Built in the first week of the 1950 Model Year, Aug 1949. Still retains its Early parts like the Lights behind the grill and ring pull gear box.
Based on the Vin of R06100130 it is an early contract military issued Land Rover. A true time capsule nearly exactly as it was decommissioned in Sep. 1962.
It has had the benefit of being imported to the USA in Feb 1963 and stored in an airport hanger since. Used and maintained the whole time. I have every single California registration from 1963 until today.
Military service number 01 BC 9001 BC 90 ENTERED SERVICE WITH WAR OFFICE [BRITISH ARMY] ON 28 AUGUST 1949 UNDER ARMY FORM GENERAL [AFG] 1033 RECEIPT/ISSUE VOUCHER NO: FTM/R/1844.
I was given a full military rebuild in 1961 as evident by the rebuild tag on motor showing 1961. Motor number is 16190561. Original motor would have been 06100352. Motor now is a 1951 1600. It is considered the correct motor for a Military Land Rover.
It has an oil Change Sticker on it from 2-24-1963 showing the mileage at 48, 763. Mileage currently is 56, 986. SO I assume it has very low miles total on the rebuild.
It runs and drives PERFECT. That is no exaggeration. It will amaze you. You pull the choke and the choke light in the dash still lights up. Hit the starter button and it instantly fires every single time. Idles smooth with no smoke. I have driven it to a few shows and it drives great.
It does have added turn signals for safety since it is left hand drive.
Wrong fuel pump. And turn signals are really the only thing not correct. And the battery cables too I guess should be added to that list.
It still wears its paint it was decommissioned from the military with. The paint is under the chassis to and if cleaned I would guess 90% of the chassis still wears paint. ZERO rust anywhere EVER.
Original Glass.
I have recently given her New STA tires, Shocks, brakes, fuel lines to make her safe and reliable.
Correct New Canvas from Tom Pickford in the UK.
Ike Goss from Pangolin4x4.com helped me source a few small correct military bits to make it complete.
The military markings are original.
44th INDEPENDENT PARACHUTE BRIGADE GROUP PROVOST COMPANY ROYAL MILITARY POLICE [TERRITORIAL ARMY] FROM 1961 AND WAS BASED IN LONDON AND LIVERPOOL.
The Ramsey winch is PTO driven and I believe added when it came state side in 1963. It works great.
I will be adding to the auction as I get questions and think of more relevant information.
This is a very rare truck here in the states in this condition. I believe it is worth more than a restored one as I can't find another original military Land Rover as nice as this on the internet. I am sure there are a few out there but I sure can't find one.
I do have a few small spares and do have the door tops in original condition.
The top iron are original except the two forward support rods (Sourced from Tom Pickford as well). I do have the original canvas but it is very fragile.
The grill was cut out to clean the headlights, known to have been done while in military service. I have semi repaired it using a later series one grill.
I have clear CA title in my name. Can ship anywhere in the world. Currently registered and insured.
I can hold for 30 days while transportation is arranged. Please ask questions before bidding.
No I will not tell you the reserve or end the auction early, unless your offer is crazy obscene high.
If you do not like it the price, or want to critique it (all fine with me) then please do not bid.
Email Exchange from John Mastrangelo (noted land rover military historian)
While researching my acquired Series One 80 Military your name came up on much of the knowledgable research.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR EMAIL AND ACCESS TO YOUR PHOTOS.
I wanted to contact you to share photos of mine.
The land Rover is a 1950 Series One built in Aug 1949. Military issue. Assigned to the British Airborne Forces as evident by the original Pegasus on the front and rear.
I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH DETAIL YOU WANT ME TO SEND BUT I CAN SAY THAT THIS IS A VERY ORIGINAL WAR OFFICE [ARMY] TRUCK 1/4 TON 4X4 GENERAL SERVICE ROVER MK1.
I SEE FROM THE PAPERWORK THAT THE CHASSIS NUMBER IS R-06100130, THIS WAS WAR OFFICE REGISTRATION 01 BC 90 AND ITS ORIGINAL ENGINE WAS 06100352.
01 BC 90 ENTERED SERVICE WITH WAR OFFICE [BRITISH ARMY] ON 28 AUGUST 1949 UNDER ARMY FORM GENERAL [AFG] 1033 RECEIPT/ISSUE VOUCHER NO: FTM/R/1844.
FTM STOOD FOR 21st B VEHICLE DEPOT FELTHAM IN THE OLD COUNTY OF MIDDLESEX WEST OF LONDON. FELTHAM WAS A ROYAL ARMY ORDNANCE CORPS [RAOC] DEPOT WHERE NEW AND USED B [SOFT SKIN] VEHICLES WERE STORED UNTIL REQUIRED FOR USE.
01 BC 90 WAS CAST [UP FOR DISPOSAL] ON 25 MAY 1962 AT WAR DEPARTMENT STORAGE AND DISPOSAL DEPOT [RAOC] RUDDINGTON IN THE COUNTY OF NOTTINGHAMSHIRE.
01 BC 90 WAS POSSIBLY PUT UP FOR AUCTION AT THE 65TH RUDDINGTON SALE IN SEPTEMBER 1962.
THE MARKINGS ARE NO EARLIER THAN 1961.
THEY INDICATE:
44th INDEPENDENT PARACHUTE BRIGADE GROUP PROVOST COMPANY ROYAL MILITARY POLICE [TERRITORIAL ARMY] FROM 1961 AND WAS BASED IN LONDON AND LIVERPOOL.
It was decommissioned in 1962 and First Registered in California in 1963. I have every California registration from 1963 until today documenting its entire private ownership.
THIS AGREES WITH WITH CASTING IN 1962.
The owner prior to me had it over 50 years. (A side bit of history- He was a direct descendant of James Marshall, who first discovered gold in California and started the Gold Rush).
SUTTER'S MILL JAN 1848.
Maintained but never restored. It has 45# of oil pressure warm and runs and drives perfect. It has New tires, New brake hoses, master cylinder rebuilt, new shocks, seats redone, turn signals and seat belts added for safety.
AMAZING TO FIND IN THIS CONDITION. THE VEHICLE IS ABOUT 95% ORIGINAL WAR OFFICE SPECIFICATION. IF YOU WANT MORE ON THIS AND OTHER MARKINGS, LET ME KNOW.
JOHN.
I have a photo album with over 150 detailed photos. I would be happy to send the link to anyone who asks.
