Listed for sale is our 1931 Auburn 8-98A Boat Tail Speedster project. Let me start off by saying that this is not a from the factory Boat Tail Speedster. Having looked for years for a Boat tail speedster we ended up purchasing a 1931 Auburn 8-98 A Cabriolet, car was very complete and in need of a full restoration. A few years later we were able to buy a correct coach built boat tail body out of a estate sale from a ACD club member along with other Auburn parts. The choice was made to pull the Cabriolet body and place the boat tail body on the 1931 8-98A frame. The Cabriolet body with the unused parts and V-12 engines were sold to a guy for his restoration project. So again this is a 1931 Auburn 8-98A Cabriolet with a correct coach built speedster body placed on the frame. Boat tail body is all steel with all the correct wood structure inside. This is most likely the closest thing you will find any more to a boat tail speedster project, they are just not out there any more. We have all the gauges, wood convertible bows, convertible irons, seat frames, handles and latches. The only parts that are missing are the spare tire hold down brackets, bumper brackets and the crank hole cover, and those parts are reproduced in the ACD club. The two side mount wheels should be replaced because they are rusty in places. All sheet metal has been sand blasted and sprayed in black primer, the tan on the body lines is just a gray primer. All body work on the boat tail body is finished and ready for block sanding and paint work. A little work is still needed on the fenders and rear panel covering the gas tank. Windshield frame and tail lights have all been re-chromed. White wall tires are new, but have been mounted up for a few years. I will show pictures of the body coming off the Cabriolet frame and the transfer of the boat tail body. Please let me know if you need any more information about the car. It is a very nice project for restoration, or if interested I can build you a one off custom street rod with it. I am the owner of Wild Iron Classic & Custom Cars in Star Idaho, and have built ISCA winning show cars as well as high end street rods and customs. You can go to my web site at wildironccc.com and see some of the work that has been done on other custom builds. I know that a lot of people would not like to hear about a car like this being turned into a custom, but if done right it would be a one off show piece. Please see the picture on the web site of the custom XK120 Jag roadster that I am building for my wife, to give you a idea about what could be done to this car. There are lots of inspection companies that can look at the car on your behalf or set up a time to come out and look at the project. Again this might be the last time a speedster project comes to market that is so complete and a clean slate for a restoration or street rod build. Please call with your questions or send an email. We would look at a part trade towards the car from the 1930's-1950's. And there are also other cars on the web site for sale and build jobs as well. Web site, wildironccc.com.
