I am posting this listing for my Father, This is his car, he restored and upgraded it. I will do my best to get any questions you have answered by him asap. You will be picking up and paying for the car with him. The following is information he has prepared. .
1981 Electric Commuter Vehicle made in Florida, for the US Postal
Department 1971-1981 – only 231 made and roughly 14 are known to exist of the postal model. Two were purchased to build this one, then the other one was destroyed (have paperwork). It is my understanding that this is the first generation of specifically built mail truck / vans.
It has been upgraded to a state-of-the-art electric vehicle with new parts like
Solution #1 Jr. 300 kW DC motor controller. Water cooled. Has an Evenetics controller interface. It has a range of about 40 miles at 34-40
mph.
Intelligent ampere hour meter. To measure ampere hours or AH, provide a numeric indication of the state
of charge (soc) of lithium ion batteries. Four basic functions – 1: ampere
hours – current flow. 2: times – hours –
minutes. 3: DC amperes up to 9999
amps. 4: DC volts – up to 500 VDC.
The entire chassis has been rewired with a new Pro-T wiring system kit. All-turn
signals, stop, marking and back-up
lights changed to super bright LED lights with 12 volts system and charger. Headlights are halogen type.
Main power: (24) E.V. Lithium
batteries. Each is 100 AH, 3.2 V.
Lithium Battery Charger Model PFC 3000 included with car.
Both – 12 volt and lithium charger are wired to a 15-amp, 120 Volt
standard V-ground house-hold receptacle.
HEPA pot box throttle EV Controller.
Has a 3-speed manual transmission and reverse, but no clutch. Back-off throttle, and shift to next gear, then back on to throttle. Features Hurst shifter that is believed to be original to car. The cassis is aluminum, the body is plastic and the rear axle is manufactured by Dana and has 5:13 gears. The car is very light ( about 900 lbs) and rather quick.
As seen in the photos there is a small tear in the front fender. I was quoted $200 to repair it by a local body shop but i have no need to fix it. Also the original heater in the car is kerosene and I have never tried to use it. I do not know if it works, it docent get cold here so I have never had a need to try it. Other than those items its ready to go. I have literature about the car and the company to fill you in on its history.
A blast to drive, and turns heads all day long. We take the dogs in
the back and they love to go for rides. Would be great for promotion of your business especially a solar or electrical contractor company etc.
