WHAT THE HELL IS A MUNGA?
The predecessor to AUDI, the DKW Auto Union produced a
number of Jeeps for the German Army in the 1950's. The name MUNGA comes from the German phrase
Mehrzweck UNiversal Gelandewagen mit Allradantrieb which in English
means multi-purpose universal cross-country car with all-wheel
drive.
Production began in 1956 and ended in 1958 and was
used by the German Border Police Bundesgrenzschutz (BGS, Federal Border
Protection] and Westen Allied countries
including the Dutch. The MUNGA was also built in Sao Paulo, Brazil where it was called DKW Candango where production
ended in 1963.
This particular version of MUNGA is a hybrid...with
the body undergoing a custom conversion onto a VW chassis and thus is powered
by a VW 4 cylinder engine. It is titled as a 1968 VW with the model being a MUNGA. It is now a rear wheel drive vehicle.
The engine has been completely rebuilt with less than 50 miles on it, and it runs great. .not your father's kind of Jeep!! Note...if you love to go to car shows...this vehicle is usually the most unusual in the show. ..and if you like parades. ..the MUNGA is always a crowd favorite!
