This Slingshot is a very good example of what drag racing looked like in the late fifties and early sixties until Don Garlits introduced the first rear engine dragster Swamp Rat XIV in 1971. Until then, the driver sat straddling the rear axle with nothing more than a small windscreen, the back of the engine and the front tires directly in his line of sight. The early cars ran on pump gas in the F/Dragster category. This particular car features a 136 ci, 1937 Ford flat-head V-8-60 using a 3 speed manual and was built and raced by Harold and Jeanne Revis of Travelers Rest, SC. The title Shaking Sixty you see across the cowl in front of the driver is a reference to the 60 HP that this flat-head was capable of in stock form; though this particular mill is sporting a Eddie Meyers intake manifold, Offenhauser heads, dual Stromberg 81 carburetors and JE Pistons. The tubular chassis features a Ford I-beam front suspension using 1939 Harley-Davidson wheels up front wrapped in 250 x 18 and an early 40's Ford banjo style rear end spinning 7 x 16 rear wheels shod with Hurst Racing slicks. Together, they raced it throughout the Southeastern United States well into the late sixties winning numerous races and setting records in the F/Dragster class. Some of those records still stand today. Currently owned by Troutt's Speed Shop of Tennessee, the car has been fully revamped to comply with current vintage racing requirements. Originally campaigned in medium blue, the new owners changed the look dramatically in 2010 with a Bright Green tube frame, suspension and roll cage; complimented by a full length sheet metal body in Black. The engine was rebuilt by Tommy Pitts and Brookshire's Automotive was responsible for the overall restoration. Recently, Big Daddy Don Garlits himself was taken back enough by seeing this machine that when asked, he gladly obliged to putting his signature on the front spring.
