1948 Crosley, 2 door fast back coupe, serial number CC 28605, engine number 25094.
This rare extraordinary micro car has an engine which is a 724 cc / 44 cu. in.
4 cylinder engine 27 HP, 3 speed manual transmission, rear wheel drive 145” long x 49” wide 80” wheelbase, and only 1155 pounds curb weight.
The Crosley was updated with various changes throughout the years.
The bar grill was added part way through 1948 and was offered as an option to update earlier Crosley’s to the New Look.
During
World War II
, the Crosley became attractive because of gasoline rationing and the good mileage it could achieve: 50 miles per US gallon.
Crosley was the last company to cease production of civilian vehicles in 1942, partly to aid Crosley sales to facilitate fuel conservation, and partly because the
War Production Board
needed time to determine a use for Crosley's small factories.
Civilian car production resumed at the Marion facility in 1946 with the new, larger and aerodynamic CC model.
Crosley introduced several firsts in the American automobile industry; including the first use of the term '
Sport Utility
' in 1948, first mass-market single
overhead camshaft
(SOHC) engine in 1946, first slab-sided postwar car, also in 1946, first all steel-bodied wagon in 1947, first American car to be fitted with 4-wheel caliper type
disc brakes
in the 1949 model year.

This 1948 Crosley is in very good condition and has been very well maintained. The prior owner appears to have rebuilt the engine. This car came out of a private collection. This is a very nice solid original car that deserves finishing and is a very comfortable and fun car to drive.
