For Sale: Allard M Type. 1949 two-door 4 passenger cabriolet. Dismantled and ready for restoration. Many printed pictures and a thumb drive of pictures record the dismantling process. Original Ford flathead V8 engine professionally rebuilt by renown Allard engine performance shop. Transmission and fuel tank rebuilt. The wood subassembly parts remade and holding body panels. The factory documentation is intact, from original build to date. Most of the history is known, from the original owner to date. A true treasure and one of a few surviving Allards.
I purchased the car from a local auto collector who bought it in 2012. The fuel tank was dented and in disrepair, so it was rebuilt and is ready to install. the transmission was rebuilt in Cincinnati by a professional Ford Hot-Rod transmission garage and the engine was built by George “Ohio George” Montgomery. George was active with Sydney Allard in the late 50’s and early 60’s and was part of the American Hot Rod team that helped the UK get started in drag racing in the early 60’s. He also rebuilt many of the Cadillac engines in the J’s and K’s. This car has it’s original 21 stud Ford Flathead V8 with two carbs.
All the body wood has been remade in ash. There are several original wood parts that were still solid and they are retained. Everything that has been done has been approached with the idea to preserve as much of the original car as possible. The alternator and voltage regulator are renewed and working. The car will need a new wiring harness or this one repaired. The brakes are all there and new rubber parts have been purchased for the rebuild.
The car was advertised as all there, but it was mostly there. The car needs front and rear bumpers and rear taillights. I am sure there are small miscellaneous parts missing, but nothing major that I have noted.
I highly recommend and encourage a personal inspection, if possible.
