1964 Model
SED MA A-12 CHECKER MARATHON – 120 inch wheel base
VIN:
A12533713269
This is a San Diego California 1964
Checker Marathon car. I have owned it
for since 2002. It has been stored
inside. It started right up and ran smooth with no mechanical noises when I got
it but over the years I believe the fuel has turned bad and the battery is dead
so now it does not start. I put in new oil and a new filter when I got it and
it will still crank. The automatic transmission is smooth shifting. The tires have good tread, however, I would
change out the tires due to their age. The
brakes are good. This car was originally
gray and now painted checker cab yellow. It looked really good when I got it, but now, part way through the restoration
process (see inside garage photos), it is dirty and somewhat disassembled. There
is a dent in the hood. The leading edge and
one side seam of the hood and the area below the back license plate is rusted
through. The interior is very spacious.
I took the head liner out and the front and back windows out. All windows are in good shape. All door windows crank up and down. There are rips in the front bench seat. The
back seat has no rips. The driver side mirror is gone. All the Checker symbols inside and outside
the car are gone. Most of the chrome
exterior parts I have but there are a couple pieces missing. The car needs all new weather stripping throughout.
New parts and work done by me:
Relined the brake shoes (all drums)
Turned all the brake drums.
New brake master cylinder (dual split
system front and back)
New brake slave cylinders in the wheels.
All new steel brake lines and all new
brake hoses.
New shocks in the back.
All new steering bushings.
I have a photo copy of the owner’s
manual and a repair manual.
I have a paperback book - Checker “Road
Test” limited edition, by Brooklands Books.
Of Interest:
1964 was the last year that the
industrial in line 6 cylinder Kaiser Continental L-Head 6L-226 cu. inch engine (80
HP) was used switching to a Chevrolet straight 6 as the standard offering.
The last Checker model rolled off the
assembly line on July 12th. 1982.
You can choose your own shipper and I
will get the car to this shippers pick up location on any Friday here in
Houston, Texas only. Every effort has
been made to accurately describe this vehicle. I have tried to disclose all
information known about this vehicle for auction. Please be advised that used
vehicles will have typical wear and tear inherent for the year and mechanical
parts are subject to fail. There are no
post auction inspections.
This car is being sold as is, where is, and without warranty. This car is not my personal daily driver. I do not know the history of the car. I drove
this car when I first got it and have based my description on that
experience. Please ask any specific
detailed questions before placing a bid. Please do not bid if you do not plan
to buy the car. Payment must be received within 7 business days of the close of
this auction and the car needs to be picked up within 25 business days. That gives you a whole month to get organized
for the car pick up, or ship it. I will
accept a money order, a wire transfer, or a check. Your check must clear the bank before you can
take position of this vehicle.
Thank you.
