Description:

1967 Rootes Group Sunbeam Tiger Series II Convertible                             Very rare Mark II 289 V8!  Represents one of only 536 produced!  Beautiful kept and tastefully upgraded with Offenhauser aluminum intake and Holley 4 barrel carburetion!  Finished in Embassy Black over black interior, whitewall tires, factory style hubcaps, burled walnut dash, and more!  Superb appearance, super fun, and very quick!  Excellent investment!
With the sale of the Rootes Group Sunbeam Alpine positioned as a fine touring automobile, Southern California Sunbeam-Talbot sales manager, Ian Garrad, needed to offer a product more suited for sports car enthusiasts often visiting their showrooms.  Efforts to build a car that could attract these young, performance minded individuals went to successful design and performance team, Shelby American!  It was already well known that they could shoe-horn V8 horsepower into just about anything you asked them to, so the Ford 260ci V8 was selected for its size and ample power output.  It was tucked into the small English chassis with only a “few” refinements to the engine bay and firewall, and the “baby Cobra” was born with the official name Tiger!  Although, the contract to actually construct them was left to English manufacturer, Jensen.
A revised vision of the original coded the Mk1A was produced from August 1965 through February 1966 with production totaling just 2, 706 units.  Final year Mark II examples were unique because Rootes was now fully owned by Chrysler, so changes were made to hide the fact a one-year only 289ci V8 Ford power plant was hidden beneath the bonnet.  A new egg crate grill, vinyl body side “speed” stripes instead of trim, Sunbeam emblems for the hood & trunk, and special stainless steel fender trim was added to highlight the wheel arches define these Mark II from all others.  A Chrysler emblem graces the passenger side lower fender, and production ceased at 536 units when the last of the Ford engines were used from the supply.  Today, because of their rarity, they are the most cherished and desired for collectors worldwide!
Finished in Embassy Black over black interior, this stunning 1967 Sunbeam Tiger is in remarkable condition!  Under the hood lies a stout 289ci V8-4V engine mated to the original Top-loader 4-speed manual transmission (HEH-CF  010453) gripping the ground through the factory 2.88 rear end (code B67 387) according the to original, factory Jensen ledger entry.  Options include correct 13” steel wheels with polished wheel covers with new BF Goodrich whitewall tires measuring 6.00-13 4-ply, burled walnut dash, Smiths electric clock, mahogany steering wheel & shift handle, Jaegar instrumentation, locking center console, Girling front disc brakes, Talbot-style rearview mirror, windshield washer, soft boot cover!
This sharp 1967 Sunbeam Tiger Mark II was recently allocated with just 43, 314 original miles!  Our ownership history dates back to 1987 when purchased by Tom Myer of Mentor, OH.  He luckily found this beautifully preserved, low mileage convertible tucked into a barn while working for an auction company seeking rare horse-drawn carriages.  As a mechanic by trade, he successfully completed a frame off restoration to ensure all cosmetics and mechanicals were back to original condition.  Once completed, it was enjoyed sparingly with only several hundred miles added to the odometer.  It was sold again in early 1992 due to a divorce settlement.  It went on to another Ohio collector, Anthony Lopardo, with 41, 975 miles on the odometer who maintained possession for the next 22 years.  While in his care, he had the car professionally repainted once again in 2011.  It sold to a Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep dealer, Jerry Goetzman, in Mount Vernon, OH in 2014 with 43, 305 actual miles in October 2014 as a wonderful showroom conversation piece.
Now ours to showcase, we are very proud to have such a prize in our showroom and invite serious investors to stop in for a closer look!   It possesses correct and special characteristics a Tiger Mark II should showcase including the steel-sealed rear package tray unique only to Mark II’s because of the electric fuel pump being moved to the trunk for the first time, and no longer requiring a hinged access panel.  All original Triplex front and side window glass remains.  It has been documented in the Rootes Group Sunbeam Tiger Registry since 1989.  Recent servicing includes rebuilt found end with new upper & lower ball joints, sway bar bushings, & control arm bushings.  The front brakes have new braided stainless steel lines, rebuilt calipers, rotors & brake pads.  It does possess a couple of modifications that include a classic Offenhauser aluminum intake & Holley 600cfm carburetor, manually actuated electric cooling fan, removal of the Girling brake booster (included), open-element air cleaner, and Clarion AM/FM/Cassette player mounted under the dash.  Cars of this caliber are rare, and continuing to rise in value even in a slow market.  Act quickly, and please feel welcome to call with additional questions!  Thanks for looking!
