I am at a cross-road in
my ownership of this interesting Sunbeam Alpine. I could make some
mechanical repairs and cosmetic upgrades now and keep the car, or I could pass
this rare classic to someone who has a unique interest in this type of vehicle
and the ability to restore it to its former originality. After considering the
alternatives, I decided to post my Alpine Mk1 on eBay in a very complete and
original state to be sold to the highest bidder. I have owned this car since
2007 and have won several top awards with it at regional shows. I purchased the
car from a gentleman who had the privilege of being its custodian for 50 years
and I have a history of his ownership to accompany the car. In 2013 I retired from business and redirected my interests toward other adventures. I
have not devoted the time or the effort to keep my Mk1 in top condition. So, it
sat under a cover in my garage for 2 years, until now.
As the car is today it
needs a fuel pump rebuild and syncro-springs replaced in the transmission to become
roadworthy again. If I were to keep the car I would refresh the interior
by replacing the carpeting, rebuild the Bakelite steering wheel which is
cracked and broken in places, convert to a 5-speed transmission and finish off
the upgrade with a new paint job. The engine, suspension, brakes and hydraulics are
in good condition, the tires were upgraded to radials in 2008, the
convertible top and side curtains are in great shape as are the chrome and
stainless trim. All-in-all, the car is in pretty good condition but needs some
mechanical work and a little TLC to bring it back to show quality. I listed the mileage on the car as 123, 456 as a mandatory eBay figure was needed, but I really don't know how many miles this car has traveled in its time. All I know is that it was well used and enjoyed.
I believe the reserve price I've place on this car is fair and reasonable, but the accolades one will receive from owning it are priceless.
Thank
you for bidding and good luck!
Included with purchase are 60 years of pictorial
history, paperwork and receipts and service manuals

“Steering wheel has cracks and broken pieces. It is wrapped with a leather cover and is functional. Wheel restoration is $600 - $800. The fuel pump leaks and is unreliable. It needs rebuilding or replacement. Transmission needs new synchro-springs to keep floor shifter from popping out of gear. Carpeting is old and could be replaced. There is no frame rust but there are a few surface spots where paint has chipped. The paint isn't bad but a repaint could be considered in the future.” |
