Description:

1961 Sunbeam Alpine SII
This is an early Sunbeam Alpine Series II, manufactured by Rootes (England) in June 1961.
Rootes aimed the Sunbeam Alpine squarely at the US market and it went through five iterations. These early ones were the most sought after due to their large rear fins (shrunk on later models) and were famous in the States as the car from the popular spy spoof television show 'Get Smart, ' it was also used by a far more famous fictional spy, when it became the first Bond car in the 1962 film, 'Dr. No'. This is the same model and colour, take a look:

This Alpine is un-molested and close to how it rolled off the Bristol Siddley production line (England) during the week of June 12, 1961. Its Wedgwood blue paintwork (repainted many years ago) is the same colour as it rolled of the production line (paint code 53) and it has its original engine (numbers match). It’s a clean and tidy vehicle and turns heads however, it could definitely do with some minor welding (floor pans); paint work; and a refurbished interior/soft-top if you want a show winner - Its a very nice car, I'm just trying to give an honest description.
This particular Sunbeam Alpine S2 has a fascinating history…
Purchased new in Switzerland (1961), it’s an official left-hand drive vehicle. The first owner was a talented ice-skater who performed with the Ice-Capades (International television show). When her European tour finished she exported the car to California where it remained in her family for 40+ years.
The vehicle was subsequently purchased (early 2000’s) by the South African Rally Car Champion (1967 Tour Natal winner). He drove the Alpine an un-eventful 4, 200 KM from California to Ontario where it remained in his ownership (dry-stored) for 7 years until I acquired it 4-years ago.
Two previous owners and both of them celebrities - That rarely happens!
The vehicle has very little visible rust (a few tiny holes in the floor pans), having lived the majority of its life in California. It is far from concourse condition and has a ‘shabby chic’ look however, considering its age; celebrity history and un-molested condition it’s a fantastic investment and a superb piece of automotive history.
The car is only driven in the Canadian summer months and is currently dry stored (off site) for the winter. It will be sold absolutely ASIS (without safety) with no warranty offered or implied. If you are considering purchasing the vehicle from outside Canada, please ask questions before auction closure and I provide honest answers.
Please don’t make ridiculous low-ball offers because I will ignore them; Also if you have a zero feedback rating I will likely cancel your bid unless you contact me beforehand. Consider its interesting history when placing your bid and thereafter, if you're the successful bidder you'll be able to spend countless hours telling your buddies about its celebrity history – As I do!
E-Bay is a contractual undertaking, please don’t bid if you don’t intend going through with the sale. I’m not interested in any trades; and I reserve the right to cancel the auction early if it sells elsewhere. A $500 (non returnable) deposit is required via Paypal within 24-hours of auction close. Buyer is responsible for collecting the car from Ontario, CANADA; and is also responsible for all shipping and applicable import/export duties. The vehicle will not be released for collection/shipping until full payment has been received (and cleared).
Happy bidding James Bond aficionados – Driving this Alpine will ensure you’re “Shaken, not Stirred and Licensed to Thrill”
