1975 Bricklin SV-1 Coupe
VIN 0031BX5S001658
Bought this car several years ago with the hopes of restoring, but life got in the way and the car never got finished. Much work has been done to the car and engine, will try to list as much as possible.
The previous owner converted the motor to a Clevor by changing the heads, cam, crank and intake. He did a great job on the motor, I have the specs on all changes he made as well as the part numbers that he put in. The motor does turn over and has been stored inside with oil in it while out of the car to prevent it from seizing. The engine was painted with high temp engine paint ford blue at one point, and it looks good in most areas, but could use some touching up on the front.
Front end of the car has been sandblasted and recoated with a heavy enamel coating. Many of the frame components and mounts have also been blasted and coated.
The interior has been cleaned. The carpet was ruined and one of the sill plates was cracked, but otherwise the interior panels are in good shape. The previous owner was going to change the interior colors to grey and black, therefore a few of the pieces have been died black or grey. The dye job looks great if you want to continue that route, or it should be easy enough to remove or recover the pieces. The dash is all original and in great shape, no cracking anywhere or fading. The gauge console was painted yellow by someone at some point, don’t know who. I painted it semi gloss black, because the yellow was horrendous. We took the old carpet out because it was rotten, I also stripped the horsehair pad that was underneath it. There was a slight odor to the interior so i sanded and coated the fiberglass with a sealer to get rid of the odor and help adhere any glue that would be needed in the future, plus it looks much better.
The air door system has not worked since I got the car. I converted the passenger door to an electric actuator. Much easier to use and fewer moving parts. I would only cost about $200 to do the same to the driver door and I could show where to get the parts from.
The outer skin of the car is by far the largest problem. The back hatch shows signs of warping, the t-panel is cracked, the door skins are cracked. The hood is in good shape, as are the fenders, they are also off of the car. The rear quarters are also in good shape. The care was repainted by a previous owner, the original color was safety orange. You may be able to see that in some of the pictures.
There are various new parts that come with the car. There is a holley 4 barrel. New shocks and various mounts and components as well as a new starter. .
The front brakes were changed to wildwood discs, but were disconnected when I got the car. I have tested the calipers and they work well. I also blasted and repainted the calipers with caliper paint since they were rusted when I received them.
The wheels are all original. I have been told that the wider back wheels were a prototype on certain cars, but I don’t know if this is true. The rims are in great shape. Obviously I would recommend changing the tires.
The transmission was swapped to a Ford C6 by the previous owners with a better Torque Converter. The C6 is longer than the original transmission, so I had the drive shaft shortened by a shop in Baton Rouge.
The fuel tank was dropped and brought to a radiator shop that recoated the tank and pressure tested. All is good there.
All glass is intact, no cracks or chips and included with the car. However several pieces need to be reinstalled.
I always thought the seats were original, however I have been told that they are not and that they have been recovered. I don’t know if this is the case, but the seat covers are in good condition, but the foam and frame need work, as the previous owner had a mouse problem, that has been resolved now.
A full set of VDO gauges is included as well as the warning lights for the dash. All of the wiring is still intact in the dash as well.
I believe I have all front end engine components except the alternator. However, some of them will need new mounts, as I never had them. I do have a box full of mounts that came from the previous owner, and to be honest I can’t identify some of them.
Not trying to mislead or misdirect anyone, this car still needs much work, especially the exterior. But for someone with the right drive and talents it should be a good starting point. I can only accept local pickup, and you will need extra room besides the car hauler, because many of the components are not installed in the car at the moment.
Will answer any questions that I can to the best of my ability. This car is sold as-is and I offer no warranty or guarantee.
Thanks for looking.
