General history:
The Trabant /trəˈbɑːnt/ is a car that was produced by former East German auto maker VEB Sachsenring Automobilwerke Zwickau in Zwickau, Saxony. It was the most common vehicle in East Germany, and was also exported to countries both inside and outside the Eastern Block. It was advertised as having room for four adults and luggage in a compact and durable shell; and being relatively fast but quite fuel efficient. The body of the Trabant was constructed of recycled, fiberglass-like material, which was called the Duroplast. The Duroplast was reinforced with recycled fibers such as cotton and wood mixed together with a special adhesive that was bolted to a steel frame. The Trabant's air-cooled 2 cylinders 500 cc (31 cu in) (which was eventually upgraded to 600cc) two-stroke engine was derived from a pre-war DKW design, with minor alterations being made throughout the car's production run. The Trabant was produced between 1957-1989, and 1989-1991 with a more modern 4 cyliders 1.1L four-stroke VW Polo engine. The number of total production estimated about 3.7millions, however, today there aren't too many around worldwide, and there is a limited number of them can be found in the U.S. and a very few of them are in an excellent condition like the one you are looking at right now!

This Trabant went through a complete body restoration that includes body work and a two tone, two stage paint job with a clear coat on top. Sound dampening sheets were installed on the floor, doors, front/rear quarter panels and roof to decrease the outside noise. The complete interior was redone. New carpets in the cabin and as well as in the trunk. The seats, door panels, and the front/rear quarter panels are made of premium quality vinyl with white border. Added headliner makes the vehicle more luxurious. New weather stripping all around and the window seals are new as well. The 2 cylinder 500cc (31cu.in.) two-stroke engine is in great running condition and produces 20HP (15Kw). The engine is air-cooled and doesn't require much maintenance. New coils, spark plugs, spark plug cables. New fuel distributor valve. Carburetor is newly rebuilt and fine tuned. The transmission is a four-speed manual on the column. New transmission axle seals and upper/lower rubber sleeves on front axles as well. Clutch is in excellent working condition. The one circuit brake system was completely rebuilt. New master-cylinder and brake fluid reservoir. New hard and soft brake lines at the front and at the rear as well. New brake light switch. Brand new wheel cylinders and brake shoes were also added and the drums were just machined. New tires and original style wheel hub caps. New ignition plate, ignition point breakers, and condensators as well. All electrical components and lights work.
This vehicle is a one of a kind phenomenon. It's in an excellent running condition and very fun to drive. It's definitely a head turner. Wherever you drive it people constantly want to talk to you about the vehicle and take photos of it. It's a perfect fun vehicle for the weekends, for car shows or for everyday use. The vehicle has a clear title and it's in hand. Registration is up to date and there's no DMV back fees.The vehicle has no warranty and is being sold in as is condition. No return will be accepted. It only can be picked up locally by the new owner. I'm not intend to ship it anywhere so please don't even ask. Verified cashier's, banker's check, or cash will be accepted at the time of pick up.
