* * This is 1996 prototype electric vehicle listed as a 1976 because the vin does not fit the ebay template. It is titled and plated in the state of ohio using the vin displayed and I will share any of the documents required to explain it* **
This is an electric vehicle, with bare essentials and no creature comforts. it was built in mexico for the us post office as one of 10 or so that were used in trials for the post office. We bought it out of a warehouse in 05 where it had been sitting for 10 years after the trials were over. It runs on a 120volt DC electric motor and a direct drive (golf cart like) system with forward and reverse. the motor is 60 horse I believe from some info we found on it when we purchased it. It has a top speed with this set up of about 40-45 mph when the batteries are new and charged well. range is about 30-40 miles on new batteries. The batteries in it are 10 years old now and in poor condition since it spends most of the time sitting in the warehouse. i replaced a couple bad batteries to get it running again but it has a very limited range currently. it usually gets better the more you cycle the batteries but i would expect to put new batteries in it if you want to use it much. There is a lisle charger with it that I dislike but it does work on 240 volts and it says it can be used on 120 volts input as well. it is currently plated in the state of ohio and is legal for use on the street
Dad bought this truck in 2005 on a whim and we put the fancy electric blue paint and lightning bolts on it as well as $2500 worth of new 6 volt golf cart style batteries in it that are now 10 year old marginal batteries. we also built the aluminum diamond tread bed for it and have been using it as a mobile billboard and for some parades. we were going to add solar chargers to the bed but Dad lost interest and its just taking up space in the shop now. Paint is beautiful on it and it spends 95% of its time siting around the shop.
Dad paid $5000 for it and we put $2000 in the paint and probably another $1000 in the aluminum bed. I wont even mention the cost of the batteries again as they are a consumable expense in one of these. We spent a lot of time understanding the truck and if it were staying around i would put a transmission of some sort in it so it had a higher top speed.
this would be a great toy that can be driven around town, used like a golf cart or gator or possibly even a tool truck in an industrial factory situation like an old cushman used to do. we are done with our project so its time to move it along.
If you have questions let me know, i will do what i can to answer them
