Here is a very rare Packard that is now on the market. One of 20 built and possible one of one with curved division window. This
is a Derham-bodied Packard, 26th Series Model 6531 Formal Sedan, Serial # 2653-4019A. This car was purchased from Nyack, New York in 1979 after
a 23 year storage. The original owner passed in 1956 and the vehicle was parked
with around 9000 original miles. It was appraised and purchased by a physician in
Knoxville, TN and made to run again and was driven 3000 plus miles in a couple
years and then was parked while it was going to get repainted. Once disassembled
and in some primer the painter passed away and time slipped by the owner. I
seen the car in 2006 when I went to check out his 54 Caribbean. It was up on
blocks in small single stall garage, covered in dust from many years. A few
years later I had a customer inquire about a Patrician and I told him about the
Derham I had seen. A deal was struck and in two days the 53 Derham was at our shop.
The next day it was once again running. What a time capsule it was. The
interior for such an old car is unbelievable in near pristine condition. It
showed some age but what an original specimen. I found all the original
information tags for the dash in the glove box. The car was restored but the
motor never came out of car. The original carburetor was professionally rebuilt.
A few upgrades were requested by its new owner. A new 12 volt system was
installed on the 327 straight 8 flathead using Power Master Alt / Gen. There is a Vintage Air trunk unit
installed. The fuel tank was bad and there are no good original tanks out there
or no original aftermarket tanks available at the time. A custom forever Stainless Steel tank was fabricated to original size spec and it bolted right
in. Other than that the car is factory stock down to the brake shoes. Of course
for safety new shocks and wheel cylinder and power master was rebuilt along
with all new hoses.
This car could be the only 53 Derham with a curved hydro
powered division window. I am sure the Packard experts will let me know. It
also has a combo spot light rear view mirror on driver’s side. When we received
the car there 12, 750 original miles showing, the odometer now reads 13, 950 or
close. This car was easy to restore has the body was near immaculate. No rust.
The exterior changes are that 1954 Senior series headlight bezels were
installed and Wire wheels and radial tires. The owner still has the original
tires, wheels and hub caps. The
modification could be removed and returned to original if someone wanted to.
The car has been used in weddings and joy ridding and when people see it, they
are taken back. The car received recent servicing.
Note the rear leaf springs were factory wrapped and coated
in “Goats Blood” or that is what I was told the preservative was called. There
is much factory undercoating and you can still see some red oxidized primer
showing in places that were missed. car is 100% rust free.
The car won best of paint at the first car show it was taken
to. The chrome is all original. Just the 1954 headlight bezels’ have been re-plated.
The car was restored by Mid-Southern Restoration along with other 50’s Packard
cars. Due to picture restraints Go to www.midsr.com

black beauty it is. Car can be sold anywhere in the world. Any questions or
