Older restoration, looks to have been restored about fifteen years ago to a driver’s quality restoration. Judging by the license plate found in the trunk, the car was registered in California around 2000 and the condition of the sheet metal it looks to have been a California car. I found it in an old garage where it looks to have been parked and not driven for the last 10 years. The car displays the Packard Centennial meet sticker from 1999-2000 and I would estimate the older restoration was completed in time for the car to attend that meet.
PAINT- While the paint isn't perfect, it does have a few tiny bubbles in it and a couple scratches on the fender and along the rocker panels, it is certainly very presentable. It’s nice enough that I don’t think I would repaint it. CHROME-The Chrome looks to be the original chrome that has a little pitting and a few scratches in it. There is one piece on the front grill that is cracked. It is still very presentable and polishes up nicely and shines like the old chrome does. INTERIOR- The interior, while isn't correct for Packard perfectionists, it was redone fifteen years ago and it is still in great shape. MECHANICALS- This car features a three speed manual transmission that performs flawlessly. It also has Over Drive and the Electromatic Clutch, though neither are operational at the moment. The overdrive should be a relatively easy fix, the Electromatic clutch is a little more comprehensive of a repair. Most Packard owners I know don’t use this feature, however, all of the parts are there if you want to make that operational. Currently it drives in overdrive and won't shift out of it. I had a mechanic go through and refresh all the mechanics on this car. It was over $6, 000 worth of work.
It has new:
BrakesTiresExhaustCarb RebuildOil Change
BatteryFuel system cleaned Radiator flushed
Gas tank pulled, stripped and renewed ( This was a chore, the tank was full of a black tar like substance. It had to be pulled, cut in half, scraped by hand, cleaned and welded back together.)
Over all the car is in great driver condition, it looks great, drives great and is a nice handling car. It's a lot of fun to drive. It’s getting late in the season, if you were looking for a nice running drivable car to take to shows, your local cars and coffee or for ice cream runs, this is a good candidate. It looks great driving down the road and attracts a lot of attention. One of the benefits in having a driver quality restoration is you can let people touch the car, sit in it and take pictures without freaking out about someone damaging the paint. It makes it a fun car.If you like tinkering on old cars, there are still a few things to tinker with on the car or upgrade without spending a fortune on parts or labor. In the end you won’t be upside down on cost verses the value f the car like you would on a four door sedan. The basic mechanicals have all been refreshed on this car. I need the garage space, which is why I am selling it, plus this car needs to be driven and enjoyed more than I have time to spend with it. I may even have to let one or two more go for the same reason.
odometer reading 45, 631, the car is for sale locally so I reserve the right to end the auction early, no warranty car sold as is where is, feel free to schedule an appointment to view the car or take it for a test drive
