This is a good old car which has been sitting in my yard since 1998. Because of health and some resultant surgery issues, I am no longer able to do the work I so much enjoy on my project cars, and I need to sell them mostly as is. As you can see from the pictures, the car needs a fair amount of interior work, but it would be worth it. 1949 was the Golden Anniversary year for Packard (50th Year). I have another '49 Packard which is a driver, and I can tell you that Packard was Still building a lot of quality into their cars during this era. The rear view mirror is tinted Gold to commemorate the 50th year. This car is 99% complete, and I can't really think of anything it is missing except for the license plate light lens. There are no exterior body rust issues and the undercarriage is good and rust free (except of course minor surface rust). There is a small area in the left rear corner of the trunk which has some rust.(picture) The body is very straight except for some minor wrinkles on the left front fender where a small dent has been pounded to smooth it out.(picture) The tires are reasonably good for their age and hold air, and will probably get you by while you work on it. All the seat upholstery, carpet, etc. are old and pretty much shot and will need to be redone. The driver's window is broken and the frame removed. All the rest of the windows and glass is good with a small crack on the right side corner of the windshield. All the front and rear light lenses are there and unbroken. There are a number of parts stored in the trunk including, 4 beauty rings for the wheels, fender skirts for the rear wheels, the driver's side door panel, door handles, and driver's window frames, the gas tank, which has been removed but looks to be in good condition, and a piece of trim. One of the cool features of this old car is that the hood opens sideways from either side, but the cool part is that if you release both sides, you can easily remove the entire hood for excellent access to the engine compartment. I can not say for sure much about the engine because I never got far enough along to try and start it, and so I have no firsthand experience with it. But the previous owner did say it was a good running engine, and I often took prior owner's word for things and never really got burned doing so. The engine looks good and the oil is clear with no signs of any problem. It is a High torque flathead 8 cylinder which if it runs half as good as the one in my other car, you will have all the power you need. I have a clear Wyoming title.
I can store the car for a while if the buyer can not take immediate possession...Just let me know how much time you need and we will work it out.
I have set a low auction starting price with No Reserve. Please contact me with any questions.
