very nice restored 100% original California license plate. 1916 issue; number 82740. 13x5 inches; blue legend on white background. plate is completely straight and flat, and has the original matching bear tab. the first year bear tabs had a blank space where the owner was expected to engrave his or her name. in this case, the owner is Jay Long of Los Angeles, and the vehicle is a 26 horsepower Hudson.
the plate has been restored; one may see evidence of the original state on the back, but the front has been brought back to a very lovely displayable patina without any distracting damage. no extra holes, and three out of four original grommets survive.
as this is just a single plate, it is not DMV eligible. it is just a very nice collector example of a rare type of plate: the matching-name bear.
