“chipped, bent, surface rust”

This is a 1918 California license plate with a blue on white porcelain enamel finish. It has some chips in the porcelain and crease at the right best seen in the first picture.
The original star rusted away and has been replaced by one that is homemade.
On the back of the plate is a label showing the name of the original owner and the make of the car that he owned. It was issued to C. W. Dougherty in Turlock, California. It was registered to a 1918 Ford Model T touring car, serial number 2719240.
