1923 New Mexico Porcelain License Plate ORIGINAL METAL YEAR TAB Rare
“F+”
This plate is all original with no restoration of any kind. Please see the close-up photo for detail. This plate features the original metal 1923 year tab, which the motorist seems to have placed on the plate crookedly. I thought about popping it off, and aligning it straight, but I did not want to risk breaking the old original mounting pins.Only new registrants received matching tabs in 1923, which is why the number on this tab does not match the number of the plate.New Mexico porcelain license plates were issued as singles only, (not pairs), and this has made them somewhat scarce. They were made of thin gauge steel covered with a fragile, poor quality porcelain enamel surface. The state"s roads were mostly unpaved at the time, and as these plates bounced around, they were susceptible to chipping, crazing and bends. Most plates which have survived to this day look pretty much like this one, however the original 1923 tab makes this a scarce old license plate.Low $4.99 Priority Mail shipping in the US, which is actually LESS than what the US Postal Service charges to ship.
