The 1949 Nebraska plates were made of thin, fragile aluminum that dented easily, and often bent or tore as well. The smooth aluminum background was prone to oxidation and scratches, while the paint did not adhere well to the bare unprimed metal, and often flaked off. However, this plate you are looking at now has none of those problems. A good amount of the original aluminum shine is still there. It is nice and solid and straight, and remarkably, it lays perfectly flat with no bends, bangs or warp. The number paint is intact, and the only issue is very minor bolt wear on the two lower mounting slots.Good luck finding a better example of a 1949 Nebraska license plate!
