This Delaware plate was the final year of the bare stainless steel riveted numbers with no reflectorization. This variety was ONLY issued between 1948 and 1950, and they are much harder to find in nice condition than the black porcelain license plates.These plates had a thin background of fragile black paint applied to a smooth, unprimed stainless steel surface. They easily scratched and scuffed, and most of them you will find today are very patchy. However, this one you are looking at now is not that bad, as it still has most of the black paint intact. Please see the close-up photos for detail.This plate, as well as the date tabs, are all original with no restoration of any kind. The 50 year tab happens to be one of the nicest ones I have ever seen.
