Item for bid is one 1953 Portsmouth Scioto County Atomic Energy City License Plate. This is not a state issued item. These were made for sale in 1953 for the various Ohio cities for people to buy to show where they were from or to boost their local area. (Only one plate issued 1953, these were put on the front of the car.) This is the 10 inch, flat steel with screen printed letter style. All original, good condition. This plate has a few condition issues; it has 4 small nail holes from the back to the front, several dents from the back, minor scratches and spot of paint loss. Most of the holes / dents are in center of the plate around the letter M. Has good gloss and displays well on the wall but is not perfect. This is the only one of these I have ever see. The Atomic City is a reference to the Atomic Enrichment Plant that was on Route 23 north of Portsmouth at Piketon Ohio.
