This vintage license plate, and the two metal date tab inserts are all original, with no restoration of any kind.If you know anything about these old black steel Delaware license plates, you know how difficult it is to find them with most of the black paint intact. This black background paint was applied very sparsely, and onto a smooth metal surface that was not etched or primed. Many of them scratched and flaked easily, revealing the bare stainless steel beneath.However, the plate you are looking at now has most of the black paint remaining, and with only a few bare spots which are limited only to the mounting slot areas.Beginning in 1957, Delaware plates were issued in the standard 6x12 inch size, so this plate is the last of them which were 11.5 inches long by 5.5 inches high. As is the case today, Delaware motorists were issued only one license plate, (not a pair). The numerals on this plate are are riveted on. They are also made of stainless steel, and are covered with a reflective surface.This beautiful old vintage Delaware license plate is solid, straight, and lays mostly flat with no bends or warp, and there are no extra holes.
