Here"s a nice original 1979 Rhode Island (RI or R.I.) passenger vanity license plate or tag MARTY on a black and white Ocean State base , as shown.
This a passenger vehicle (private car) vanity license plate issued to someone who, presumably, was named Marty or Martin...or maybe the original owner was an avid fan of the movie Back to the Future?...or maybe there"s another explanation. Either way, that person chose that as their vanity. Cool first name plate that"s perfect for someone with a name in this genre.
In accordance with policies, all plates being offered are expired and at least three (3) years old; this plate expired in 1979, thus, it is 38 years old. This plate is offered for collectible, souvenir, craft, man cave or other decorative or hobby purposes but MAY NOT EVER be displayed on any motor vehicle, unless expressly authorized in writing by the Rhode Island Department of Motor Vehicles or RIDOT. Bidders participating in this auction agree to these terms and further agree not to misuse these plates in any way, including in any way that may violate any laws, statutes, ordinances, etc.
In my opinion, this plate is in Fair-Good (F-G) original condition. It has moderate to heavy wear to the lower bolt holes, cracks to the background scotchlite, darkening over large parts of the background, some ripples to the lower edge, a dent and crease on the right side, and scratches to the raised characters on the plate. It has some stray marks and scratches and several spots of dirt too. Plate lays mostly flat but some areas of the edges are bent up slightly. Well and long-used condition, but still perfect for someone who needs a Marty plate. Also perfect for a Rhode Island collector, oddball collector, vanity plate collector, or just anyone who thinks it would look cool on their wall.
Beyond the specific description, any plates offered may also have dirt, scratches, scuffs, paint chips, bends, dents, enlarged bolt holes, bolts attached, extra holes, jagged edges, rust, odor, etc. They are used but displayable and should clean up some more if the buyer chooses to try and improve on their condition. I am selling them as is. Please examine the photos carefully as this/these is/are the plate(s) you will receive if you win this lot.
