Light gold base, white numbers/letters. The school colors of Oakland University, they were hard to distinguish from any distance. Plates have GREAT LAKE STATE legend. Two license plates (front and rear) were required.Michigan"s 1970 automobile license plates, for the first time, carried three letters and three numerals (e.g., NFM-001). More than 8-million plates could now be issued without duplication. In September 1970 the Department of State dropped the requirement of producing the vehicle title when buying license plates, if the purchase was made using a prepared application.
