You are bidding on a Missouri State Penitentiary Housing Unit 1 Souvenir License Plate. The front of the plate portrays Housing Unit 1 built in 1904 and is in sepia toned coloring. It measures approximate 12x6 and has 4 holes to fasten. The front also shows 1836-2004 along with the website address for the Missouri Pen tours. The Missouri State Penitentiary was the oldest penal institution west of the Mississippi and operated from 1836-2004. It"s nickname was The Walls. It housed famous inmates such as Charles Arthur Pretty Boy Floyd and James Earl Ray. At one time, the inmates at the prison produced the state license plates. This souvenir plate was given when you took the tour. A great piece of Missouri history. Please feel free to ask questions prior to bidding.
