This auction is for a NOS set of 2 1948 Illinois manufacturer license plates, issued to the Tucker Corporation, maker of the Tucker 48.  This set was to be issued to Car #81, but if you"re reading this you know #81 was never produced. Thus these have never been mounted to a Tucker (or any) car. They are in the original envelope and have aging consistent with a 68 year old plate, but are in very good condition. The Tucker Corp. was issued Manufacturer #1 (the big 1) in 1948 due to the high profile of the company at the time (with manufacturing facility right outside of Chicago). This is also the first year Illinois issued Manufacturer plates, and the first time non-passenger IL car plates were made of steel.
