You are looking at a REAL 1968 Plymouth GTX. These cars are getting very hard to find. This car has rust damage in all the typical ‘mopar’ areas. The good news is that each and every section needed for repair is being remade in the aftermarket world. I know very little about this car other than you see in the pictures and read in this ad. I purchased it along with several others from the same person. I was not interested in keeping this one (and a few others I bought) but it was a better financial decision to purchase all of them.
This is a BIG project! If you aren’t familiar with vintage cars, especially vintage Mopar’s then this probably isn’t the project for you. This car has extensive rust issues in the rear half of the car. The rear frame rails need to be repaired or replaced from the wheel hump back. The trunk pan, floor pans, rear wheel wells, lower quarters and deck lid also need to be replaced. As you will see in the pictures there’s also rust damage around both front and rear glass. Due to the value of this GTX, it’s also a good candidate for a re-body project. I’ve taken 60+ pictures and attached them in this photo bucket. here The pictures should tell you everything you need to know about the condition of this car.
The engine appears to be a 1976 400cid 4V (based on the intake). I am unsure of the rear end ratio or if it’s a Sure Grip. The transmission appears to be correct. The drive shaft is in the trunk with a broken U-joint, and one U-joint strap is mission from the nose of the rear end. It appears that is slung the drive shaft and was parked at that time. The carburetor was taken off the engine as well. The license plate that I removed from the car was last licensed in 1992. It’s my guess that the car was parked at that time. I do not know if the engine runs. It does roll over by hand, it’s not locked up.
I own a vintage car restoration business so I deal with cars like this daily. A project of this size might scare some people but I’ve fixed much worse. This car is worth fixing for sure! However, I have so many in line already that I’m passing this one along to the next person. I have a clear, open Tennessee title in my name with this car. The title and cars I.D. tag are worth nearly my starting bid.
This is a NO RESERVE auction so the first bid could be the winning bid. However, I am also advertising this car locally for $4500 cash. If I get a local buyer before I get a bid on this auction I will end the auction without notice. If the car has bids here then I will not sell it locally, I will simply instruct the local buyer to go bid on this auction. I will put a $4500 buy it now option on this auction for buyers that don't like to wait and that recognize the value of this American Muscle Car.
And now for the formalities; This car does not run. This car does not have a warranty of any kind. Ask ALL of your questions BEFORE YOU BID! If you cannot afford this car do not bid! This car will have to be hauled/towed from its current location at the expense of the buyer. I will not sell parts off this car. I am NOT interested in any trades at this time.
This could be your chance to own an iconic piece of American Muscle car history, don’t pass it up. You probably won’t ever see another GTX this complete this cheap.
Be sure to look at my other auctions, I'm selling some vintage muscle car parts. You should mark me as a favorite seller and follow my auctions because I'm also going to be listing a 1973 Challenger and a 1974 Challenger 340 in the near future, as well as a crazy rare assortment of parts. I recently sold a 1968 Roadrunner and 1969 GTO 4-speed.
As you can see from my feedback, I don't play games! I call it like I see it and treat customers like I want to be treated. I don't have the time or patience to deal with time wasters, tire kickers or bidders that don't pay. That being said, if you cannot afford this car don't bid on it! I will not arrange shipping for this vehicle, that will be the responsibility of the buyer. Since this car does not run or have brakes, the buyer will need to provide a way to get this car up on the transport vehicle. If the buyer happens to be in a path that I travel on a normal basis (between Tennessee & Florida) I would consider delivery for a fee ONLY AFTER the buyer pays for the car in full, in person.
Bid with confidence and bid to win!
