1969 PLYMOUTH road runnerFACTORY N96 AIR GRABBER CARRARE COLOR COMBOFORREST GREEN / SILVER INTERIORBARN FIND Off the road since 1999
You just don't find cars like this Road Runner anymore. I purchased this car from the Nephew of the original owner. He told me his uncle bought it new in 1969. It has had one repaint in the late 1980's. This car is super original and unmolested it lead an easy life not seeing the modifications and abuse most Road Runners did. To start with it still has its NUMBERS MATCHING 383 engine along with its NUMBERS MATCHING 4 speed transmission! Plus it has a still working, original N96 AIR GRABBER HOOD Option! and BODY TAG & BUILD SHEET! The motor is all all stock and runs nice I have driven this car all over town and it stops people in their tracks not because its a show car, its not! but because its a un-restored all original air grabber 69 road runner. When I bought this car it had been sitting for years I wanted to make it drive-able again. I let it sit a couple of weeks with some Marvel Mystery in the cylinders to make sure it would not crack a ring
(IT WAS NOT SEIZED you NEVER want to start a motor DRY that has been sitting for some time)
Starting under the hood it received a
NEW BATTERY
NEW K&N AIR FILTER
NEW SPARK PLUGS
NEW SPARK PLUG WIRES
NEW DISTRIBUTOR CAP & ROTOR
ALL HEW HOSES, HEATER & UPPER & LOWER RADIATOR
PLUS NEW THERMOSTAT
NEW FUEL PUMP & FUEL FILTER
FRESH HIGH ZINC OIL & WIX FILTER
FRESH ANTI FREEZE
I then installed a brand new gas tank & sending unit after blowing out all the lines. All of the rubber hoses were changed by the gas tank as well. I also changed the Ignition switch and tumbler the original one was no good. The car started right up and ran like it was running yesterday. The engine is so original! it has the original carb with tag, original coil, still has the original exhaust manifolds, valve covers, wire looms and the cherry on top The original Air Grabber Air Cleaner assembly! Like I was saying you just don't find road runners like this anymore. I then moved to the undercarriage to make it drive-able and safe.
Underneath it received
4 NEW SHOCKS
4 NEW WHEEL CYLINERS
NEW BRAKE HARDWARE ON ALL 4 WHEELS
4 NEW BRAKE DRUMS
NEW MASTER CYLINDER
NEW BRAKE HOSES
NEW BRAKE SHOES ON ALL 4 WHEELS
ALL NEW WHEEL BEARINGS, RACES & SEALS
I also checked the trans & rear oil levels which were fine. The car had rusty chrome magnum 500 wheels with dry rotted tires on it, so I swapped them with 15 painted steel wheels and redline tires. Along with a set of 1969 Plymouth dog dish like a Hemi car would run.
This car is so cool to drive all the cool stuff still works
like the beep beep horn, fender mounted turn signals, light above the ignition key, map light, dome light, air grabber hood.
Lets talk about the rarity of the color combo on this car. This is a forest green car, black vinyl top with a white tape stripe and a SILVER interior! along with the air grabber option and that strange color combo it may be a one of one? Who knows? The seats were redone in black at the time the car was painted because they could not find a silver vinyl to re-upholster them in. The silver interior gave you silver seats, silver door panels, silver headliner and a black carpet with a black dash and black kick panels.
I did put a fresh rug in the car as well. While it was out I got a look at the floors and they are very solid. The pass foot well is starting to get a few small holes and someone put a small patch on the drivers foot well but when you look from underneath it does not look to bad at all. The body of this car has some problem areas such as the roof. Unfortunately being a vinyl top car it does have some bad rust under the vinyl and will need a roof skin to be fixed correctly. AMD sells the new roof skins for $675.00 it is a common problem with vinyl top equipped b body mopars. The car will also need trunk pan as with most b bodies the gas tank moister causes them to rot out. The trunk extensions look solid it is in the center of the trunk over the gas tank. The framerails look beautiful as you will see in the pics. but there is a spot that will need attention up front. The car sat for years with a battery leaking acid in the battery tray and it has produced some holes under the battery area in the side of the rail. You should be able to fix the existing rail with ease cutting out the acid damaged area and welding in some fresh metal. The fenders and doors are good workable parts the lower quarters look like they have had some repair years ago when the car was painted. All the glass looks to be original and in good shape
This is a car you can drive around and leave it as is and enjoy it. But being a numbers matching air grabber car in a rare color combo it is wothy of a high dollar rotisserie restoration and should fetch $55-60 thousand once restored.
Perfect car for Mark Worman and the crew at Graveyard cars to get their hands on.
