LOW RESERVE - 1989 Plymouth Sundance Hatchback 4-Door 2.2L FWD - TIME CAPSULE - Low, Low Mileage (38, 419 original miles)
I am selling my great running, very low mileage, dependable 1989
Sundance that needs nothing but a new owner.
The GOOD - Very recent (within the last 8 weeks unless
otherwise specified) inspection/replacement of the following items: Brand new
gas tank, inspection of fuel pump, new fuel filter, new fuel lines (where
needed), brand new front bumper (the original bumper had a medium-sized tear in
the lower right corner), battery is less than 1-year old, complete tune-up (new:
spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor), upper and lower radiator hoses
(replaced less than 2-years ago), fresh oil change and filter. The oil and oil filter have been changed
religiously every 2, 500 to 3, 000 miles by the previous owner and myself. The tires are very good and have
approximately 60% tread life (6/32) on the fronts, and approximately 70%
tread life (7/32) on the rears, and would advise to rotate at the time of
the next oil change. All the tires hold
32psi of air (no rim leaks) for at least 3 months; (during seasonal changes in the
weather, I re-check the psi).
All electrical components work as they should (gauges, heater, radio, lights, wipers, lighter, windshield washer pump, horn, rear
defroster, etc).
All manually operated components work as they should (door
locks, hood/trunk release, mirrors, doors, windows, mirrors, etc.).
I had taken care to repair ALL mechanical items that were
bad when I had purchased the vehicle. No
misalignment of windows... no broken door handles... no broken outside
mirrors... everything mechanical has always been maintained.
Suspension is very good and tight -- rides smoothly on
highway (70+ mph) commutes to work.
All glass is in excellent condition. Interior is in excellent, 'unaltered'
original condition.
The headliner, carpet, door panels, dashboard, instrument
cluster and dash panel facing are in excellent condition as well. The cloth seats are very comfortable and in
excellent condition as well.
All exterior items, such as: Head lamps, tail lights, marker
lights, door handles, locks, mirrors, etc., are all in excellent condition.
I typically get an average of 24 to 32 mpg (combined city / highway
miles), depending on traffic.
The BAD - The A/C compressor is in need of replacement
(always blew “cold” until the clutch on the compressor seized; the A/C belt was immediately removed to prevent damage)…
the original A/C components are all intact and have never been
disassembled. The original ash tray
seems to have a broken corner ‘tab’. Within
the last week, the dome light switch appears to be non-functional (I replaced the bulb, but the dome light is
still not functioning). The recently
noticed that the rear hatch door struts are ‘weak’ but, I have purchased new
replacements (included with the sale of the vehicle).
The UGLY - Vehicle has the 'usual' rust area (as seen in the
photos, the lower front area of the rear wheel wells) prone to these years, but
the frame, trunk, floors, etc., have been inspected.
If you are looking for a classic, unique, dependable, good
used car to take you from point A to point B, and prioritize that the integrity of the body, engine and transmission are sound, and don't want to invest initial money in repairs, then this is the car
for you.
NOTE: This car runs, drives, and idles well, the engine is
quiet, the transmission operates smoothly. The car does not smoke or leak any fluids visible in my driveway -- I
usually add one-half quart of oil between oil changes (around 1, 500 miles)...
other than that, the antifreeze, the power steering fluid, the brake fluid and
the transmission fluid is checked periodically, but I have never needed to add
additional fluid to any of these items to date.
Reason for selling: I have recently purchased a ‘beater’ Jeep
for the upcoming winter, and am therefore selling this vehicle since I do not
have room in my garage, and can not afford the cost to maintain the additional
insurance, state license plates and local village sticker.
This was simply my “back up” vehicle (to drive primarily
when either my wife’s, or my work vehicle needed repair); I had garage-stored
this Sundance EACH winter since I owned it, and I believe that I am the second
owner.
I have spent approximately $1, 100.00 in repairs/maintenance
within the last year (the new front bumper, the new gas tank (installation
costs of both), as well as a complete tune-up and battery replacement accounts
for most of the money spent within those last 12 months).
I have tried my best to honestly describe ALL the qualities
of this vehicle (whether good, bad, or ugly), and now leave it up to the buyer
to make the decision whether he/she is interested in the vehicle as
is.
As I had previously indicated, I do have a LOW RESERVE price on this vehicle (please do NOT ask me to reveal the reserve price).
I have this vehicle listed locally, and reserve the right to cancel this auction if I receive a fair offer.
If you have any questions, please free to email me.
NOTE: I will be driving this vehicle to work a few days this week, so the actual mileage (38, 419) may increase by 100 to 150 miles.
