Description:

NO RESERVE AUCTION. HIGHEST BID GETS IT. You can pick it up at the Carlisle Import/Kit car show, May 15-17 !!!!!!! I'll be there with my BMW Z3 Coupe (that's also for sale)
This little Fiero is a blast to drive and a real attention getter. Only mod done was replaced trouble prone timing gear (made of some substandard GM fiber material) with bullet-proof steel gear. After sitting for a week there is minor blow by at startup. If driven daily, this doesn't occur.
In 1984, the new Pontiac Fiero was honored with Indy Pace Car duty. An Indy Pace Car must be able to sustain speeds of 120+ mph without breaking a sweat and the Indy Fiero had no problem doing so. In honor of such an audacious introduction to the American public, GM built 2000 Indy replicas with the venerable 4cylinder Iron Duke engines and seats that had the
Indy 500 logo monogrammed into the red cloth seatbacks
. The 2000 replicas were bought up within days. No this little jewel will not do 140mph but it looks like it's going that fast just sitting still!
This one has the
manual transmission
. Of the 2000 made, only about 250 had the manual tranny. Of the seven Indy Fieros I've seen, all had the lackluster automatic tranny. Why drive a sports car if you don't want the thrill of shifting through the gears? Just sayin'.
The
mid-engine
layout
makes handling superb. We’re talking loads of fun in the corners and on twisty roads. It has the popular
sunroof
/moonroof that does not leak (rubber seal is still in fine shape). It has the most sought after options:
electric windows
,
electric mirrors
and
power locks
along with the
power trunk release
. and
rear window defroster
. The
gauges work
. The factory AM/FM stereo cassette is not hooked up.
The
headlights go up and down
as they should. The
A/C
components are good (compressor, etc) and all the A/C seals were replaced when the steel timing gear was installed. I have not recharged the A/C system however as I am a keep it stock with R-12 kind of guy but I realize there are those out there who may want to convert it to R-134. So, I'll let the auction winner decide.
Low mileage for this year
of car (92K) and it has been
well maintained
with regular oil changes. I drive it on weekends.
The Fiero was only 2nd to Volvo regarding safety (crash tests) during the 5 years it was built. Its roll-cage
like construction is rock solid and the gas tank that is in the center of the car resembles a race car's fuel cell
. My son’s 1988 Fiero was destroyed when hit broad side by a Ford F-150 doing 70 mph. He only suffered minor injuries. The car was T-boned so hard, the passenger side armrest was touching the steering wheel! The car flew up in some trees and came down landing on its roof. The firemen at the scene said ANY other car would have just exploded in flames AND the roof would have caved in, crushing my son. Guardian angels were playing man to man defense that day and I’m glad he was in a Fiero!
The cult-like Fiero following is great because parts for these cars are everywhere
. When Pontiac shuttered their doors, Fiero owners just smiled and took it in stride as cottage industries that cater to Fieros are abundant.
