I am sorry I had to end the previous auction early but the autocorrect on my computer seems to have inserted a partially wrong VIN in the original description and I missed the error. This 1997 Pontiac Firebird Formula has been in our possession since 2007 and was made into the official chase vehicle of the US Flag Balloon Team (usflagballoon.com). The paint is not perfect since car was painted 7 years ago, but it is nice. It has served us faithfully and never, ever let us down. It can be found many places on the Internet and if the words Flag Car is searched in Google, it is one of the first images to come up. It has been on TV and print media too many times to count. This is not a car for anyone that is an introvert!
I replaced the transmission in it when we got the car, second gear was missing. The trans came straight from GM and now has around 40, 000 on it. The car has around 140, 000. The trans fluid gets drained and replaced every year. I put a larger transmission pan with a plug on it so it is real easy to do and it keeps the fluid cooler.
I just tuned it up with factory plugs and wires last year. It had the original parts on it and they had never been changed so they were 16 years old. The fuel pump was replaced 2 years ago with a factory (Delphi) one.
The tan interior has front seat covers on it. The front seats are worn and have covers on them. The rear seat back has some destitching and a small tear. Driver side (non-power) has working lumbar support. Factory CD player and radio stereo and equalizer, works great. The power window motors have both been replaced. The dash is cracked and there are a couple grill slats missing in the defroster, very common problem on these cars. There are several places to get a replacement dash cover. The interior has normal wear for a car of this year and miles.
The car has no upgrades mechanically with the exception of the Hooker exhaust that was put on by the former owner that gives it a mild rumble. It is NOT obnoxious. We wanted it to just be dependable and it runs just fine the way it is.
The top is made of canvas and very durable. There is a little mark in it where the frame touches it when the top is down. The motor for the top works perfectly and the latch system is the first nice GM design I have seen.
We have replaced this Formula with a 2005 Mustang GT and will be sad to see it go but we don't need it. It is a great driver. Perfect for the ROTC grad, someone that loves the USA and bleeds red, white and blue; or for a person that wants to be known for having the only Flag car in town. Must be willing to have to wave to a lot of people you don't know and get continual thumbs up. Always the favorite in parades on 4th of July, Memorial Day, and Veterans Day. I have all the color codes in case the car ever needs repaired.
