1972 Pontiac Grand Prix Hurst SSJ

Pontiac Grand Prix Hurst SSJ (1972)
for sale

Price: US $2,000.00

Description:

Up for Bid I have a

VERY RARE AND VERY SOLID 1972 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX SSJ!!!
THIS CAR IS A ONE OF ONLY
60
FACTORY PRODUCED WITH THE PONTIAC SANCTIONED HURST MODIFICATIONS, ONE OF JUST A FEW KNOWN TO HAVE COME IN BLACK AND SO FAR TO THE BEST OF ANYONE’S KNOWLEDGE THE ONLY ONE WITH PORTAL OR OPERA WINDOWS INSTALLED BY HURST!!!
YES IT IS A REAL SSJ!!! I HAVE THE PHS DOCUMENTS TO PROVE THAT IT IS.
THE SHIP TO CODE ON THE FACTORY INVOICE IS 50 012 WHICH SPECIFIES THAT THE CAR IS TO BE SHIPPED TO HURST FOR THE CONVERSION!!!
This Barn Find came from the factory with power window, power door locks, power trunk release, power driver’s seat, cruise control, in glass rear window defroster, AM/FM Stereo, 8 track player, dome/map lights, trunk and under hood lights, cornering lights, dual sport mirrors, remote drivers side rear view mirror, tilt steering column, rally gauge cluster, black cloth bucket seats, console and Air Conditioning . Then this car was shipped to Hurst where they installed the sunroof, portal windows, dual rear mounted antennas, security system, honeycomb wheels, the Gold paint on the hood top, trunk and below the body line on the sides, the gold pinstripe on the hood and trunk, the now black padded landau top and the Hurst SSJ emblems. The Vinyl Landau Top on this car appears to have originally been
GOLD
and then sprayed black later. This is another
VERY RARE FEATURE
as, until now, no
HURST SSJ's
were known to have
GOLD VINYL LANDAU TOPS
and
THIS ONE DID
. Most all of the power components and wiring are still in-place except for the A/C compressor, radio and 8 track all of which were available in any Grand Prix of that era and can be found in the used parts or NOS market.
This car left the factory as a Model J with the 455 Engine and Turbo 400 transmission and 12 bolt posi rear. In 1971 and 72 only Model J Grand Prix’s were sent to Hurst for this conversion due to the conflicting factory striping that came standard on the Model SJ cars. 1972 was the final year for the SSJ and the lowest production of all three years that they were produced starting in 1970. Although no longer the original 455 engine, this one STARTS
and RUNS GREAT!!!
The oil pressure is about 50psi at idle (See pic). The trans fluid is clean and full and it shifts into all gears. The power disc brakes and power steering all work and fluids are full. THIS CAR STARTS, RUNS, STEERS, DRIVES AND STOPS!!!
There are no noticeable leaks in the engine, trans or cooling system and no drips under the car even after running it for over an hour. The exhaust is still tight with no significant leaks. Even though this car seems to have been off the road since 1991, as of today that is no longer true as I have actually driven it. It does need to be restored and most everything is there!! The car does NOT appear to have been in any accidents but there are several small dents and dings. There are a few holes rusted through both front floor pans as well as the pans under the back seat. The trunk floor is solid as is the frame
. The left rear quarter will need a patch as will the left front fender just ahead of the door. The right side quarters will need some metal work as will the rear window track and a place on the right side “C” pillar. The engine bay is actually pretty decent except for the top of the core support but with a little effort it could be brought back to showroom quality. The cowl appears to be in good shape. All of the original glass is still installed and in good condition. There is a second fully padded black dash top that is in nice shape with no cracks and has not been cut where the radio goes that will also go with the car.
This car has a CLEAN TITLE
. This car could make a GREAT FATHER SON PROJECT and once restored will be the CENTER OF ATTENTION at ANY CAR SHOW
!!!
You don’t see many Grand Prix’s of this vintage anymore much less a
HURST SSJ
IN BLACK and
I SERIOUSLY DOUBT YOU WILL EVER SEE ANOTHER WITH PORTAL WINDOWS!!!
Although not a GTO the Grand Prix commanded the same performance as the GTO but with Luxury and Style!!! During the three years that the Hurst SSJ Grand Prix was offered there is absolutely no difference between the engines offered in the GTO from the engines offered in the Grand Prix except for the 455 HO engine that was available in the GTO in 1970.
If you go online and search 1972 Grand Prix SSJ you will find that in all of the articles and photographs that are available only about 5 or 6 different 1972 cars ever appear in any of those photos or articles. There seem to be only 2 White cars, one Black car, one Green car and one Blue car. There may be others but they are very few and far between. The Hurst SSJ Grand Prix is a kin to Oldsmobile’s Hurst Olds but because there were far fewer of these made than the Hurst Olds they are a highly sought after car and
it is very rare to ever see one for sale. There were more produced in 1970 and 1971 but 72 had the lowest production.

As of the writing of this ad the Pontiac Hurst SSJ Registry only shows
ONE other
Black SSJ in its registry making this car to be only
ONE of TWO known to be in existence today
No other SSJ’s are known to have the Portal or Opera Windows which makes this
GRAND PRIX SSJ
a ONE OF ONE!!! This car has been added to the Hurst SSJ Registry.
YOU DON’T WANT TO MISS OUT ON THIS
TRULY ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY TO OWN ONE OF THE RAREST, THEREFORE ONE OF THE MOST COVETED, CARS EVER PRODUCED BY PONTIAC AND HURST AND ONE THAT IS AN IRREPLACEABLE PIECE OF CLASSIC AMERICAN AUTOMOBILE HISTORY!!!
