1979 Pontiac Le Mans

Pontiac Le Mans (1979)
for sale

Price: US $2,000.00

Description:

Up for auction today is this 79 Pontiac Lemans
(Not a Grand LeMans or base coupe..Just a coupe)
I am not a dealer, but rather a hobbyist and enthusiast, as are many of you.
If you have any questions at the bottom of this section, please write me and ask them.
I acquired this car about four years ago from a friend who had intended on making it a drag racing only vehicle.
Originally a 231 Buick V6 car, it came to me as a roller , with no engine or transmission.
I intended to install either a Pontiac 400 or 455 engine, but planned on making it back into a street legal performance car, however I came across a good running Pontiac 301 2 bbl. out of a 79 Bonneville.
I had a valve job done on the heads, although it didn't appear to need it. I also replaced the timing chain and most of the original gaskets and seals. It still has the original camshaft, and the engine starts and idles normally.
I added a four barrel intake and a 1972 750 Qjet and a dual 2 and 1/2 inch full exhaust system with chambered mufflers, exiting the engine through stock factory exhaust manifolds.
For the transmission, I chose to use a 200 4 R overdrive unit, with a 13 D5 2050 stall, lock up converter. The trans is supported by a custom fabricated cross member.
After installed the 301, I elected to make more of a highway cruiser out of this car, so I installed a Positraction unit with a set of 3.08 gears. Incidentally , it has 215/75 rear tires, and it will cruise down the highway, 90 mph, in 4th gear lock up , at 2200 RPM!
Details, front to back:
78 Trans Am radiator, dual factory type electric fans with adjustable controller.
Power steering, power brakes.
15 x 7 Pontiac Rally II wheels all around.
O'Reilly sourced AM/FM/CD/USB radio in dash with your basic 6 x 9 speakers. Nothing fancy, but it sounds fine.
Carpeted trunk with mini spare , scissors jack, lug wrench and wheel lock key.
Rear suspension has air shocks with no-hop bars installed, with the anticipation of a larger engine one day.
Body Condition:
This a very straight, original paint, RUST FREE, Sun City , Az. vehicle, however it does have a few minor dings on the sides and hood. The worst of all can be seen in the picture, on the hood. There is a very slight dent below the left quarter window. It doesn't even show in the picture. What you're seeing is actually touch up paint where the bump strip was.
The front nose piece has some cracks in it, and that is the trade-off out here for a rust free car. My plan was to replace it with an 81 nose section from a northern car, which will bolt right on. I prefer the look of the 81 piece.
A good body man could have this car ready for primer in one day. I could do it in two days myself , and I take my time with body work.
The car does look okay as is, from about ten feet, if you're into that patina-ed , beater/ daily driver/ sleeper thing.
No accidents or frame damage.
What it needs:
Besides the paint, it needs to have the back seat rebuilt to match the front, also a headliner panel with fabric, which is the same as a Malibu, and readily available. Also the rubber around the side windows and doors. Again, same as the Malibu.
New carpet was installed last year.
What it doesn't have:
The previous owner had removed the heater/ AC box, controls, and ducting, so it has none of the above. I have a complete wiper set up for the car, and it will go with it, free of charge.
Also, some of the A/C brackets and pulleys are on the engine, and I have some of the hoses, plus a long compressor , good for a core only, that will go with the car.. Also some misc. trim and dashboard pieces.
Now for the disclaimer:
First of all , this car is probably NOT emission or safety compliant in most states. It has NO catalytic converters, vapor recovery , air pumps and who knows what else. PCV valve only. NO guard beams in the doors..Lap seat belt only, and head rests. 5 mph bumper shocks are still intact.
Clean title, in my name, to go, and registered here in Az. as a collector car, but as far as I know you intend to make a race only car out of it again. I do have two MT, 29.5 x 10.5 slicks on 15 x 7 rims, that actually fit on the car, that I'll ship with the car if you want them.
The mileage indicated is not correct, nor relevant, as I have changed the engine, transmission, and rear end.
The extra parts included are free of charge, not built into the total price. Maybe you can use them or maybe not. I have no control over that.
Terms:
Buy it Now price is set for pick up at Glendale, Az.
I can arrange a shipper for you, but you will need to deal direct with him for his fees.
$500 via Pay Pal, promptly at close of auction. At that point, I can arrange the shipping.
Balance in full, in certified funds, over- nighted to me on the day previous to the scheduled departure of vehicle.
I will sign, notarize , and over night the title to you at that time, along with a Bill of Sale, if required.
Again , any questions, do not hesitate to write to me here.
Thank you for reading...and bidding
