Description:

1969 Pontiac Trans Am Test Car 9723 Design Scenario for 1970
Fisher Body Division not only supplied production bodies for each of GM’s five brands, it also performed the initial engineering of the design concepts that each division’s styling team would create.
Not everything went smoothly, even in the golden days of the muscle-car. The second-generation Camaro and Firebird were delayed in 1969, when problems with their rear quarter-panel tooling cropped up during the preliminary tooling tests before the start of 1970-model-year production. Try as they did, Fisher Body, Chevrolet, and Pontiac engineers couldn’t get the tooling to produce parts that weren’t wrinkled, wavy, or otherwise out-of-specification. The decision to scrap those body dies and make new ones pushed back the second-generation F-Body car’s on sale dates to late February of 1970.
General Motors was well prepared to sell 1969 Firebirds as 1970 new model.
Seeing as they even included it in there 1970 sales brochure they also were preparing to give the 1969 Firebirds new part #’s . This way if a customer ordered the 1970 Firebird and needed parts they did not want them giving part #s for 1969. Test Car #9723 is the only car in existence known to be born with these part #’s.
Below is a list of the part #s that are truly unique found only on Pontiac Test Car #9723.
*8738440 - Custom High Back Bucket Seats (1 of 1)
*231PMD9- Stamped on Inside of Seat Cover
*6487495 - Dual Snorkel Air Cleaner (1 of 1)
* N/A - Per’sonal of Italy Formula Steering Wheel (prototype formula steering wheel)
(1 of 2)
*78740 - Monroe Max Air Shocks Verified by Tenneco Monroe
*N/A - Cibie High Beam Headlamps dated July 1968
* N/A - Manufactures MFG License plate found in wheel well
This car was built the 1st week of July, 1969. It has some unique GM Part #s that appear in GM part Catalogs published July, 1969. The reason for these rare part #s were due to the fact that GM dealerships would need these unique part #’s if the fisher body dilemma with the rear quarters dies was not corrected.
GM was so unsure about the 1970 model they had to prepare their GM Parts Catalogs the same way they did their sales brochures except instead of removing references , they actually had to
prepare their catalogs with * New Part Initial Catalog denotations for the 1969 Firebird parts that were going to be used for the 1970 old Fbodys if Fisher Body was not able to correct the problems
with the rear quarter dies wrinkling and splitting.
This is why Pontiac Test Car #9723 was born with so many unique one of kinds GM part #’s.
This car is a true one on one and its easy to see Fact vs Fiction . The fact that there has been alot of
non factual data published by other sites , from the pictures i have uploaded its very easy to see
how untruthful & confused some people can be and still publish false facts that are easy to see.
I encourage any one interested in it authenticity to come see the
car and inspect it top to bottom . Thanks
