At Carstore we are proud too offer this 1980 Pontiac Trans-Am that is an official 64th annual Indy 500 pace car edition. This car is part of automotive history and that is the reason it was the Indy 500 Pace Car that year. This is a affordable driver quality car that hard to find. In this day of extremely expensive classic cars it is nice to have one that is affordable and still you get a very desirable car!
The original engine has been replaced with a 400 CU IN engine that provides a lot more performance than the original 4.9 Liter with the turbo. It still maintains a turbo-Hydro Automatic transmission. The engine has a mild cam and it performs well and has a great sound to it! This is one Trans-Am that will get your attention just by stepping on the gas! It just makes you want to get in the car and cruise! The only complaint I would have about this car mechanically is there is a small leak on the engine, I believe it to be the rear main seal and the air conditioning was taken off the car to add performance . The mileage showing on the odometer is 10, 000 miles and will be sold as exempt. This car is not being represented as actual miles
You gotta love the Official Pace Car Graphics on the doors! It notifies everyone that this is one of those cars that was sought after the day it was produced and the legend has grown with enthusiasm since then. The T-Tops are one of those long lost options that will always have a place in car lovers hearts. We even have the build sheet (see pic)!
The exterior has been repainted at some point and it is a slightly darker (and better looking) white. The only complaint on the body is minor surface rust (easily repaired) at the bottoms of the doors and quarters. All of the spoilers (including the front spoiler) are intact and in great condition. The Hood and Graphic Design on the hood of the 1980 Pace Car Trans-Am is simply amazing and remains one of the best looking factory cars ever built.
The interior is in good condition even though there are signs of wear and it looks to be completely original. There is something about the look of a original hounds-tooth interior. This Pontiac Trans-Am has all the desirable equipment including tilt steering and power windows. Finally, a custom stereo has been added for those of you hot rodders who love music as much as you do your car.
Final Impressions on this 1980 Pontiac Trans-Am! It is a good driving car and brings back a lot of memories (good ones) from the 80's (for those of you who weren't around in the 80's, you really missed something, it was GREAT!). It performs the way it should and drives out nice. On a scale of 1 to 10, with 10 being the best. I would give this Trans-Am a weak 7, it's good, but it's not perfect. Like I said in the opening it is a driver quality car. This still could be taken to local cruise nights and car shows and you could still be proud, after all it is and will always be a 64th Annual Indy 500 Pace Car!
