This auction is for a beautiful, True survivor, One owner 1981 Pontiac Trans AM. This is part of my personal collection that I have to thin out. I hate to sell it but it was a toss up between my 1975 455 HO car and this one and this one lost. I will list all of its good points as well as any flaws.
The body of this car is 100% original including the paint and decals. The body on this car is rust free top to bottom. The paint is original and still looks very nice. There are some chips, Dings and scratches but nothing major. The paint is chipped on the bottom of both fenders from stones kicking up. There is a small ding/dent on the passenger quarter panel from a can falling off of a shelf. All of the decals on the car are original. There is some cracking on them but nothing bad. Overall it is a nice, Straight old Trans Am that shows very well.
The interior is also all original and is very nice. The dash is clean with no cracks. All of the gauges function properly. The AM/FM radio still works and actually sounds pretty good. The seats are nice and firm and very clean with little to no wear. The rear plastic panels are faded which is common and the headliner is sagging a little on the drivers side. Overall the interior is all original and very clean.
The engine, Transmission and rear are all original. The engine fires right up with no noises or smoke. It goes to high idle and kicks down when warmed up. The engine idles smooth and makes good power. The transmission shifts nice and crisp through all of the gears. The rear is a posi rear and probably has 2.73 or 3.08 gears in it. Overall it is smooth and quiet and drives like a low mile car should.
The suspension is nice and tight. The brakes are four wheel disc brakes and they stop nice and smooth. The tires are in good shape but they have been on the car since the late 90's. The exhaust is all original except for the drivers side muffler was replaced at one point. The AC is complete on the car but does not currently work. I did not try to retro fit it. Overall it is mechanically in good shape and drives very nice down the road.
The only things not original with the car are the battery, Radiator(just replaced), Upper radiator hose, Front brakes, Front and rear shocks, Tires and the drivers side muffler. The turbo was replaced under warranty years ago. Other than this maintenance work the car is as it was when new.
If you are looking for a nice investment car this is a good one. Cars that are this original don't come along that often. I spent several hours with he original owners when I purchased it and they gave me the complete history of the car. They also saved every piece of documentation from when the car was purchased.
This car can be seen during the week and on Saturday from 9-5. It is stored indoors and I will need a days notice to get it out to show.
