1961 KARMANN BODIED CABRIOLET
In 1961 Porsche contracted with Karmann Body Werks to produce a new body style for the 356. The Notchback coupe was designed to increase sales by offering two fixed roof styles. This new style also served two objectives. One to offer a new body style and second to have a second company to produce bodies for the 356 incase of disruptions with their current supplier Reutter body werks. The new Karmann design accomplished this by building a Cabriolet body and welding a Notchback top to the body. This new body style then would secure a supply of Notchback and Cabriolet bodies in case of any disruptions with their current supplier.
This auction is for a 1961 Karmann Bodied 356 with the welded top removed and converted back to a Cabriolet with factory parts. This is a rust free car with original panels and no body damage. It is equipped with Webber carbs and a factory cloth top.
