Description:

For sale is my 1969 Porsche 912.
Engine and transmission are original. Engine Serial # is 40959086.
I bought the car from a prominent car collector and Real Estate Developer in Portland, OR and have since put more than $3, 000 into the car in maintenance, repairs and TLC. Given the rapid appreciation of these models, you can't lose money on this 912 and you'll have a fun, reliable car to drive while its value rises.
As the 911 market rises to stratospheric levels, these 912 models will be the next to jump. Get in early on the 912 market and enjoy the classic 911 lines with a peppy engine and even better handling. The lower and more central mass of the engine on the 912 makes it a more eager companion on twisting back roads, while still providing all of the classic thrills of vintage Porsche ownership.
This 912 has a beautiful interior with leather-lined microsuede seats. It also has the highly-desirable five-gauge dash configuration found on the 911, rather than the three-gauge setup on many 912s. The carpet is in great shape (with NO rust underneath) and the dash has no cracking or pealing. All of the dash lighting works, as well as the exterior lights.
At some point, according to the previous owner, the 912 has been repainted in it's original color - Ossi blue. In person, it is incredible to behold: deep and rich in tone, while absorbing and reflecting the natural colors around it. Pictures can't do it justice!
The engine is a 1600cc flat four-cylinder with Weber Carbs. When I bought the car, it was running slightly rough, but a trip to my local aircooled Porsche specialist fixed that! I would honestly say the engine is the high point for the car. Everything has been gone through in meticulous detail to make this a strong-running and RELIABLE 912. It may take a few seconds to crank over in the cold, but it ALWAYS starts and has never left me stranded in a parking lot over the time I've owned it. After its most recent trip to the mechanic earlier this year, the car hasn't leaked a single drop of oil. Most aircooled cars will lose a few drops a day, but for some reason I got lucky with this one.
On that first tune-up visit in June of last year, the car had the following installed:-Correct 031 Distributor-Pertronix Ignitor-Distributor Cap--Rotor-Spark Plug Wire Set-Rebuilt mechanical fuel pump-Spark Plugs-Fuel Pump Spacer-New Belts-32mm Venturis-Emulsion Tubes
The Carburetors were also re-jetted, the throttle linkage was adjusted for proper actuation, the handbrake was adjusted and the compression was tested. The Spark plug hole for cylinder #3 was also repaired and the car was topped off with fresh oil.
After nearly a year of driving, the generator warning light came on, which prompted another trip to the mechanic.
We replaced:
-Alternator (an upgrade for these early cars)-Pulley-New Belt-New Battery-Battery Ground Strap-Oil Pressure Switch
My mechanic also redid the associated wiring and cleaned up wiring from the previous owner.
The car also comes with a dogleg 5-speed 901 transmission, rather than the 4-speed on most 912s. It's a little piece of Porsche racing kit and provides a little more pep to go with the 912's willing engine.
The bad:The car has never had full seat belts since I've owned it. I always planned on getting a half cage and some harnesses but never had the heart to do it on such a clean interior. I always just drove it without belts, but I realize that's probably not realistic for most. I'd recommend getting some lap belts to pair with the shoulder harnesses that don't have an anchor.
Interior: The car has a tear in the fabric covering the passenger-side C-Pillar (pictured) as well as a small gash on the rear of the headliner (pictured). The latch for the driver's rear window needs to be replaced (pictured).
Exterior: The paint cleans up well, but has blemishes from being driven for nearly 50 years. Keep a coat of wax on it and it's incredible. Minor surface rust spots on some trim pieces, but overall a very rust-free NW car.
Drivetrain: Gearbox can pop out of 5th sometimes if you're at low RPMs and heading uphill. Usually you should be in fourth anyways if it does pop out. Doesn't bother me, but should be disclosed to potential buyers. My mechanic says this is likely a shift linkage issue and cheap to fix.
Please see the photos for records of the maintenance done.
Overall this is an incredible clean car that's just ready to be driven anywhere and any time.
If you have questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks!
