Description:

1970 Porsche 914-6
I am reluctantly selling my 1970 914-6 (VIN #9140431673). If you want a “concours-perfect” collector car, read no further.
Drivetrain
The “Black Pearl” is a genuine factory 914-6 but does not have its original 2.0 liter engine. The engine has been replaced with a Euro spec Porsche 3.0 liter CIS fuel-injected SC engine (circa 1979). The whereabouts of the original engine is not known. The engine compartment has been modified to accommodate the larger engine. Other modifications are detailed below.
With the additional power of the SC engine (170+ hp) and taller 4th and 5th gears, this car drives like no standard 914-6. Yes, it’s fast … but not too furious. It has been 100% reliable and I don’t hesitate to take it on road trips.
The GHL stainless steel heat exchanger/exhaust system adds a fantastic sound (though I did add sound deadening material to the engine compartment, floor, and doors to keep it comfortable).
The car rides on four new Michelin Pilot Exalto 195/60 R15s mounted on deep six Fuchs wheels. Bilstein shocks on all four corners, 911 SC front suspension components, and a new steering rack make this car handle better than most 914s. 911 SC calipers and drilled rotors provide plenty of stopping power.
Interior
The interior is clean and neat without signs of excessive wear; there are no rips or tears. New high-quality carpets were recently installed. Dash is very good with no cracking or fading evident. Shifter is the older Rennshift unit with short throws and reverse lock out. Original driver’s seat and that weird foot rest are not available. Current driver’s seat is a Konig Sport model with headrest and good lateral support. Seat belts are original. Radio is a Blaupunkt Frankfurt European model with rear iPod jack. It is wired to original speakers and a hidden windshield antenna. Steering wheel is a good looking Nardi-style unit with wood rim and original Porsche horn button.
Exterior
Exterior is very good, but not perfect. Panel gaps are just okay. Since it is not a “garage queen” and is regularly driven in good weather, there are some small nicks and stone chips. The hood has some “orange peel” in the paint. Chrome is excellent and molding/trim is in good shape. Sail panels and roll bar are painted to match body. The top is good but like every 914 I have driven, it rattles, squeaks and shakes a bit. Windshield is new (May, 2013), side windows have a few scratches, and rear glass is excellent. Front and rear directional lenses are the tri-color European style; one is slightly cracked. The car cleans up nicely and does well at local car shows. It was invited to participate in the 2013 Greenwich Concours.
Maintenance
Underside is clean and appears to have at least one new floor pan. Recent service (April, 2015) includes a brake flush and oil change. In 2013 $6, 000 was invested: engine and transmission were removed for tuning and re-sealing, linkage was repaired with all new bushings, suspension was overhauled, 4 wheel alignment was done, and numerous brackets, seals, switches and gaskets were replaced. All work was professionally done by Porsche specialty shop.

Summary
If you want a real 914-6 that is powerful, handles superbly, and can hold its own at a local car show (it cleans up nicely), consider this car. It’s a driver’s car that you can take anywhere without concern.
Miscellaneous
Your bid is a binding contract, so don’t bid if you cannot afford this car. Ask your questions beforehand (no, I will not tell you what the reserve is!). You or your representative can inspect the car by appointment at my home in Stillwater, MN. I have tried to describe the car to the best of my ability but I do not take responsibility for unknown/unseen problems. No warranty is offered or implied, the car is sold as is, where is. A non-refundable deposit of $1, 000 is due within 48 hours of the end of the auction and final payment must be made within 5 business days by cashier’s check or wire transfer. Car will not be released until funds clear.
Happy bidding.
