Beautiful and mostly restored Southern California car. A lot of the work has been completed already - just needs somebody who will appreciate and enjoy this classic air cooled Porsche!
Basics:
The 1.8L flat-4 engine comes with original fuel injection and runs great. 5-speed transmission had a recent fluid change and shifts good too. Brakes are fine as well. Seats are decent, dash has some usual cracking but overall interior is in good functional condition with regular wear. All gauges work. Odometer shows about 29K but it's a 5 digit unit so true mileage is unknown.
Recent maintenance and repairs:
a nearly $4K dark red paint job, rubber seals throughout, battery, windshield, rear bearings, shifter bushings, pushrod tubes, tie rod ends (including alignment). A new rear trunk bottom was installed at the repaint and a rear trunk lid shock kit was installed. All minor surface rust it had has been professionally repaired so there virtually no body rust! Floors are solid. Heating system has been fully restored including all hoses, cables and valves. I've repaired/replaced a lot of cosmetics and minor stuff so the car is ready for usage.
Upgrades:
the wheels have been upgraded to 4-lug Fuchs wheels (2-liter alloys) with good tires which were optional for this year. I also mounted a replica of factory front LE spoiler installed which looks great and sits high enough to avoid scraping on curbs. Has a Pioneer AM/FM/CD unit with good floor speakers.
Included:
some minor spare parts including extra body seals, fog lamps, car cover, shop manuals, original Porsche steering wheel, electric pump for windshield washer conversion, etc.
Summary:
the car is a very solid driver. It runs and drives great and is a lot of fun especially with top down. Took a several hour trip on I5 not long ago - didn't skip a beat. It handles great, steers straight and tight and accelerates pretty good too! I enjoy driving it very much but I currently have 3 vehicles so something needs to go. It would make a great summer ride! I wouldn't hesitate to drive it anywhere at this point. However, please keep in mind that it's a regularly used 40 year old vehicle and adjust your expectations accordingly. This is the last year that doesn't require SMOG in CA so can be driven without a worry. Either way the catalytic converter is still in place.
Logistics:
the car is available for pickup in San Francisco, CA. I have a clear title in hand and it's ready to be signed over to a new owner. Buyer assumes the responsibility of picking it up. I'm willing to work with buyer's shipping company if need be. A $500 deposit via paypal is expected within 48 business hours with the rest through paypal or bank check/cash in person. Bank checks are subject to verification by the seller. I may consider a
reasonable
offer. Please think carefully before making an offer, I know what the car is worth so I lets not waste each others time with something too low.
